COVID-19 shots won't be available to the general Ontario public until October 26. That is far, far too late. The major spread from back-to-school and Thanksgiving will have already happened.

The lack of consent with AI integration is truly something. My choices are "yes" or "maybe later". Where is the option to launch the AI assistant into the sun? I'll come to AI when I need something done sloppily and feel like spending my time and expertise correcting it instead of doing it myself.

It's definitely fall, which is the best time to get native seeds in the ground. Many of them need a cold period in order to germinate, so use the winter to your advantage! This is also a good time to pull out invasive so any returning shoots are more vulnerable to the winter cold. #NativePlants

I love my neighbourhood in this time of year. The poplars are so beautiful.
Looking down gravel road that bends to the left. All along the right side of the road are brilliant golden poplars that shine in the sun and contrast sharply against the bright, blue sky.

An irksome thing about working with big companies is that when projects go up the chain for review, they come back with additions that aren't in the estimate. A good company will ask for a revised estimate. A bad company will assume you can do the new stuff for the same fee.

A weird thing I've started doing while writing editorial letters to authors is finalizing one section, then highlighting it black, like a blackout poem. This forces me to not keep fiddling with it and focus on the in-progress sections of the letter. Unusual but effective #amediting #fictionediting

I don’t think teaching a canon is bad, and studying intellectual traditions as historical phenomena is important to understanding culture, past and present. What’s bad is teaching a specific canon as if it’s above history and somehow universal. The frame matters, as does what’s available beyond it.

Exactly this. And in fact, many models *have* been created this way, and decades of prior machine learning systems *were* created this way, consensually. These things are choices! People are STILL working this way! It’s not just that a better world is possible — it already EXISTS. We can nurture it.

A collection of frogs for you in these trying times.
Five digital drawings of "frogs". One is inspired by an Ouroboros, another seems to have a carved turnip for a head, one is a somewhat scrungly witch, another wears a flowery shirt while drinking from a coconut, and finally one of them is "Bimble". Bimble looks like if a rock tried very hard to be a frog and almost succeeded.

Also, it shouldn't matter that every young woman or woman is a daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, niece, etc. to some man. What matters is that young women and women are human beings. Their importance and right to decent treatment is not determined by what man they are related to.
