How wonderful, isn't it, that there are little creatures that like to be cuddled and pet, and we humans so love to cuddle and pet them.

Yep, Josie was a medium kind of dog - needed loads more exercise as a youngster, was reactive and nervy, wouldn't tolerate a lot of necessary handling - and she was still medium difficulty. She wasn't a Collie, say. Or a cattle dog. I couldn't care for a dog like that now. Topanga is easier.

ALL OF THIS! Dogs are pets on hard mode, even easy dogs like Topanga. For the right person they are absolutely worth it, but you have to be that kind of person, and there is no shame in being a cat or lizard or plant or fish person instead! God likes variety. Keep bees if you must.

I do a lot to keep Topanga busy and occupied. It's not just "throw her a toy," it's decide which toy she hasn't played with in a while, or what's best for her energy today, or do we need to work on something together, even if that is taking a nap? Dogs are A Lot. I'm glad to do it. Not everyone is.

I agree so much. Dogs have wildly lively inner lives and individual selves and all of this has to be accounted for when selecting one to share your life with. They're not robots where command goes in and behavior comes out. They're.. people.

I opened the car door during our walk tonight. I expected her to bolt away from it but she didn't, she calmly sniffed at the inside of the car. Progress!

I took Topanga out for a session of car desensitization and it went very well. She is so praise and food oriented, teaching her things is easy. We went from squirming at the end of the leash to putting a paw on the running board after my pocket full of treats was eaten up. Such an easy dog.

There is a confederate (ugh) monument close to me. Recently it was improved: someone hacked the head off of one of the soldier statues. The usual losers are het up about their heritage; the rest of us are laughing about participation trophies. I think they should have done the one facing the road.

So, yeah, funny-not-funny story, I'm in the hottest county for dengue cases. I am trying to be careful, watching for standing water, walking Topanga at non mosquito hours, but there's only so much I can do to not get bitten. Thanks ever so fucking much, GOP.

There is no vaccine for dengue that's approved for places without endemic dengue.
