This is quite cool. My university is the first organisation in the world to force Microsoft to allow us to turn off copilot summaries in Word 365, after a backlash against it from staff (including, very vocally, me). That cannot have been easy for our heroic IT people so hats very much off to them!

I've been looking at what it would cost to do some basic film photography - less than you'd think, more than you'd hope - but I've come across an interesting genre of sales pitch of vintage cameras on Ebay "Near Mint Condition!" Body - Perfect! Mechanism - Buttered Silk! Lens - Mushroom colony.

Prompted by a conversation on discord, it's heinous that buying a special edition hardcover doesn't even guarantee that the book will have sewn signatures anymore. Just glued like a paperback. I'm a professional bookbinder specializing in repair. This is not a book that'd survive being read a lot 🧵

Hardcover of The Works of Vermin, propped open slightly. There is no endband glued on, and although the orange sprayed edges make it difficult to see, the pages are held together by a thin layer of glue and some paper on top only.

Two hardcovers compared. One with signatures and headband on the left, and the orange one with glued pages on the right. There is a very visible difference.

It's bizarrely bad. Agamemnon's actor has no idea what to do onscreen (he was arrested two years later for running a drug lab in his kitchen). Priam has a thick Russian accent. The other Trojans don't. Cassandra(?) keeps wanting to summon the kraken. I guess she wandered in from the wrong film.

Every once in a while I am reminded of the hill I absolutely will die on, possibly literally: The word 'dragoon' does not mean 'mounted infantry' in any kind of unambiguous way. Someone only familiar with 19th century history will not understand 'dragoon' as a synonym of 'mounted infantry'.

These are really fun, definitely recommend them if you like Lara Croft or Uncharted! The series opens with Liv and her brother shooting at each other as a result of sibling rivalry and the old "it belongs in a museum vs kids are expensive" debate, and only gets better from there.

A couple went on a Fox News podcast and claimed the state of #Massachusetts took away their teen because they won't help the teen transition. But it's actually because the father was charged with beating and threatening to kill the teen and the mother was charged with witness intimidation.
