I plan on releasing one new council a day for the month of August. - By the end of the month, every Scottish Council should be live on City Scope with a year backlog!

City-Scope has been redesigned across the board. I've been working away at polishing the existing features and completely overhauling the look and feel of the site. Most features are still the same fundamentally but hopefully feel much more enjoyable to use. East Lothian updates now live too

3. Cycle path link connection and associated works from Gogar Station Road south to land east of
1 Gogar Station Road
The site is located to the east of Gogar Station Road close to the M8 overbridge. The site broadly
follows the northern and eastern perimeter of an arable field, known as the Quarterfield and
comprises a strip of land located along the edge of an arable field. To the north of the site lies a
vegetated field marign which continues to the east. Beyond the field margin lies the M8 slip road
to the A720 Bypass. The western boundary is formed by arable farm land. To the south, the site is bound
by the junction of 1 Gogar Station Road and an exiting footpath.
The site has an area of 0.7ha.
The path link is required as part of a wider proposal for a cycle path which will provide a route to and
through the Redheughs development starting north of the M8 overbridge on Gogar Station Road,
connecting to RBS Gogarburn. The route of the path is outlined in Condition 5 of the Redheughs
development permission (NOD-EDB-002). Planning permission is required for the section of the path which
crosses the Quarterfield. Provision for the remainder of the path will be addressed in the Application for
planning permission for works to Gogar Station Road and Gogarburn (see point 1 above) and, where the
path travels through the Redheughs development site, in an application for Approval of Matters Specified
in Conditions (AMSC). The AMSC will be submitted in due course.photo of path under construction (John Robson)

1. The Holyrood 2026 Election is Thursday 7 April
The election is critical to active travel and wider transport policies and budgets for the next 5 years. Is there a local AT scheme you’re looking forward to? – in Edinburgh, say Meadows to George St, or Portobello-Musselburgh? When and if such projects happen depends largely on the existence and size of the Government AT budget.
Sadly and disturbingly, in view of the climate crisis, the cost of living crisis, the need for healthier lifestyles to help the NHS crisis, and the shocking decline in healthy life expectancy, most of this year’s manifestos mark a massive deterioration in active travel policies as compared to the 2021 election – or even 2016.
In 2021 all parties promised to increase AT investment from its then 3.5% of total transport. But in 2026 the Greens do retain a 10% promise, but no other parties promise even to maintain current levels (3.9%) and the Conservatives explicitly promise a cut, calling active travel an ideological project. Meanwhile, apart from the Greens, there is unanimity on pouring more cash into increasing trunk road capacity.
Our manifesto analysis included most of the items directly relevant to cycling policy, as well as some wider environmental transport issues. However, we did not look at walk, bus and rail in our comparison. Our full detailed manifesto comparison table is here, but a summary of the overall outcome is...
•
Greens – excellent
•
LibDem – positive, though in a fairly modest way
•
Labour & SNP – poor
Reform – bad
•
Conservatives – terrible
Green – if we had to quibble, more should be said on the public health and NHS benefits of people

North Edinburgh Connections (walking, wheeling and cycling)
Overview

We want to make your streets safer and easier for everyone to get around. In North Edinburgh Connections (formerly NEAT-Connections) we’re proposing changes to roads, pavements and public spaces along:

    West Granton Road
    Pennywell Road
    Ferry Road

Changing streets makes it easier and safer for everyone in the community to get to local shops, schools and other community facilities. The proposals include:

    more accessible pavements
reducing traffic to a single lane in each direction on Pennywell Road
    safer and more crossings
protected cycle lanes, connecting to other areas like Granton and the city centre
new and improved outdoor spaces, which could include trees, plants and play areas

By reducing road space, we can build safer routes and paths for getting around and connecting to other areas. Landscaping with plants and trees will make the area more attractive to travel around or simply spend time in.Map of area, highlighting W Granton Rd, Pennywell Rd, Ferry Rd
