I raised multiple issues through council website a couple weeks ago. Reply was basically saying they didn't have the resources to even check the issues. Half were caused by home owners failure, half were council owned land. CEC has legal duty to ensure all pavements are passable.

Bigger question for me is, why is the council not ensuring our streetscape is accessible by design? Many of these examples were installed recently. We should be ensuring any streetscape changes take into account the needs of all users. Thank you Cass for taking the time this morning. #Leith 2/2
Photo showing a dropped kerb where a gap between kerb and roadway has been filled with concrete. Photo showing a kerb with no drop, making it completely inaccessible to a wheelchair user. Photo of very narrow pavement with a dropped kerb. The narrowness of the pavement together with the camber of the dropped kerb makes it inaccessible to most wheelchair users. Photo of Cass, a wheelchair user, blocked by scaffolding which has reduced the usable width of pavement, together with a dropped kerb that is not flush and still has a sizeable lip.

Article intro from Local Transport Today...

‘Oxfordshire’s electorate has endorsed our approach to transport – we will not let them down’
In the local elections on 1 May Oxfordshire County Council went from No Overall Control to Liberal Democrat control. Andrew Gant was re-elected in his ward, and is carrying on in his role of Cabinet Member for Transport Management. In an exclusive piece for LTT, he considers the challenges now facing his administration as it plans to introduce traffic filters, expand the Zero Emission Zone; and introduce a Workplace Parking Levy. There are a range of policies, all interlinked and overlapping, and all dedicated to the key objectives identified in our Local Transport and Connectivity Plan: safer, cleaner streets, better public transport, and more choice for the travelling public. All of this comes down to one quite simple fact: there is too much traffic on our roads. There is no solution which does not involve facing up to that and being prepared to do something about it.

Central to our policies to tackle congestion are what we have come to call the three Core Schemes: the six traffic filters; the expanded Zero Emission Zone; and the Workplace Parking Levy. Many other policies and schemes sit alongside these, including our roll-out of 20mph speed limits, the Vision Zero programme, School Streets and much else.

Part of our response to the 2021 consultation..

As is well established, building additional relief roads such as that proposed may offer a temporary
respite, but will ultimately induce further traffic and exacerbate issues elsewhere on the road
network. As this project is not accompanied by any work to alleviate congestion and wait times on
the Straiton roundabout or the slip roads joining the A720, any slight improvements to journey times
on the A701 south of Straiton (and the increased journey times by up to 3 mins outlined on the
project website hardly seem sufficient to justify a project of this scale), will likely be counteracted by
additional traffic attempting to leave or join the road at the Straiton Roundabout and further
congestion on the A720 Edinburgh Bypass.
