a lot of people are replying with 'what are you going to do about it,' and while every level of government could do more, the powers the *DC City Council* has in this situation are comparatively limited. This isn't just voter intimidation, but an argument for statehood for the District of Columbia.

i think this gets at the crux of it. It doesn't matter if they are actively preventing people from dropping ballots off, or if they're there by accident, or what--their presence could still be viewed as intimidating, and the solution is for them not to be *anywhere*

I'm not going to get into it on Threads because I'm not a masochist, but sending your editorial notes to an author for a trad pub book that's already published is insane behaviour. The author vetted it, their editor did, a copyeditor, a proofreader...the book is written the way it is for a reason.

people keep reposting my stuff from a couple days ago like "but I buy all the banned books!" "my classroom reads all the--" man you have no idea how many books are being banned. it's THOUSANDS. looking it up gives you top 100 at MOST. banning hurts authors. hands down. stop trying to make it okay

and that's on purpose. people banning books want our kids to be more vulnerable, less educated, they want them having fewer choices, and less voice. they want them subjugated. and they are using adult fear about kids growing up too fast to accomplish it. don't let them have that

and yes fundamentally the people is hurts most are kids. just in case that wasn't evident from everything else I've said to date haha. book banning is an attack on children and teenagers. it is the theft of their world and it leaves them more alone and less equipped to face the world they live in

Vote early and in person, folks. If you're in a "vote by mail" state and can deliver your mail-in vote directly rather than relying on USPS this year, do it. Otherwise get it into the mail at the earliest possible date. www.democracydocket.com/news-alerts/...

I'm just gonna bookmark this for future reference when Dem pundits complain about how the party has trouble communicating its message to voters. The reason you keep running into trouble with your branding isn't campus radicals. The reason is that your opponents purchased all the media outlets.

Asimov's trying to grab all the rights to @donatoarts.bsky.social's work is egregious but it's not in isolation, either. Other publishers are attempting other rights grabs and restrictions that they weren't doing a couple of years ago. Why? Because fuck you, that's why. Remember the power of "no."

Always vindicating when you find out a previous employer has split your old job up among multiple people. A little baffling to find out the new hire only got half your job when the reason you left was being bored out of your skull because there wasn't enough to do.
