There is a lot of "oh dear" to go around in the results of this very thorough Pew study on the issues with synthetic samples, but this strikes me as particularly "oh dear" www.pewresearch.org/data-labs/20...
AI polling results can lean on racial or partisan stereotypes

In many cases, our AI poll took beliefs or attitudes that are reasonably common among a particular subgroup and portrayed them as nearly ubiquitous. For example, our AI poll would indicate that:

97% of Hispanic adults are at least somewhat likely to follow the World Cup (while the actual share is 43%).

Incredible chutzpah from a Congress whose one major legislative act was a budget bill that among other things imposed significant new administrative burdens on Medicaid recipients

The median voter is stupid but they're not *so* stupid that they fall for this. Most people can tell that this is a cynical attempt at winning votes lol. If anything the median voter will prob view this as an insult to their intelligence

When Third Way says that Dems should hold off their anti-trans strategies, you know things are changing. The organization tends to be more centrist, and they are noticing the same thing the far-right is... the Republican anti-trans campaign cycle is NOT working this year.

The question by-and-large is not whether the midterms will be good for Dems or not, it is whether it'll be a blue wave or blue tsunami

Justice isn't losing in November but if he's doing this that means Republicans are in full panic mode. I think there's a broad consensus on the coming blue wave that is only really opposed by chriswithans et al

This fallacy drives like three-quarters of political punditry. Entire pseudosciences are built off this fallacy (e.g. racialism). The median voter is utterly captive to false causality

I think people have heard the maxim "correlation does not imply causation" enough times that a lot presume it to be common knowledge and don't recognize just how often people conflate the two, even those with knowledge of the fallacy!

In VA-01, early voters so far are moderately bluer than in 2024 and slightly bluer than in 2025. Lower-propensity voters are coming from the bluest areas, an encouraging sign for Democrats beyond simply front-loading turnout. It’s still very early in the EV period.
