There’s in fact a huge literature on this, and multiple studies on Seattle specifically. The short of it is people tend to value trees, but they value their neighbors’ trees more. This is particularly true of big trees, likely due to maintenance and hazard effects.

The question that @guyoron.net asked Bob Kettle about why "Public Safety" doesn't include traffic safety — the consistent #1 concern of Seattleites in public safety surveys — continues to get under his skin. Just now Kettle once again implied Guy "doesn't seem to know" what they're talking about.

America had wiped out measles. Now babies are infected at birth.
Congenital measles has rarely been seen in the U.S. That’s changing as vaccination declines and more pregnant women become infected.

Would you believe these eggs are from a dinosaur that lived approximately 200 million years ago? Although identifying which species of dinosaur laid a particular egg is quite difficult, the surest way is to find an embryo inside an unhatched fossilized egg, which is a rare find.

ProPublica spoke to dozens of people who had lived in homeless encampments when cities cleared them out in “sweeps.” We distributed notecards so people could tell us about the toll in their own words. ➡️ This is what they wrote:
Handwritten notecard. Prompt at the top asks: What object was most devastating for you to lose, and how have you been coping? Answer below: Dentures. Were thrown away and coping isn't somthing I can do. It’s made me feel ugly, unworthy, can’t go get a job with no teeth. So how can get off the streets until another pair can be made?

I would say it’s only as likely as good organizing and building political will. Golf numbers are just inane numbers. Let’s take the 18-hole use in 2024 as an example: 101,889 rounds played, a “great” year after “high growth”. And yet that’s just 280 rounds / day, a usage of 2.2 persons / acre-day!
Golf Rounds by Type and Category
Jackson Park round revenue, in total, increased by 14% over 2023. While the total number of rounds increased by only 3%, the operational focus on dynamic pricing reflected a significant increase to revenue compared to growth.
74,675 total rounds played with $1,992,676 in reported revenue.
• 37, 943 Adult, 18-hole rounds ($1,558,858)
• 23,820 Dynamic Pricing Rounds (63%)
• 15,811 Reduced Fee, 18-hole rounds ($291,453)
• 20, 921 Short Course rounds ($142,365)
15,811 rounds of reduced fee, 18-hole golf: $291,453
9,518 rounds of Senior (4,815), Super Senior (4,815), Military (54) golf.
• 6,293 rounds of Junior golf.
• 18-Hole Junior Rate: 1,630
