This story is horrible, enraging, and far too common. They treated him like a criminal because as a Black teenage boy, they assumed he must have been. They didn't care about his life at all. He missed his prom, he lost his job. I hope his family sues them all.

"The book was better than the movie" is such a weird thing to say. Is this painting better than that concerto? Is this sculpture better than this poem? Is my mom better than a fistful of rice?

That’s the weird part. If you don’t care enough to choose and manage your pretend team, what’s the point? I didn’t have time to care, so I stopped playing.

I understand that paywalls are annoying, but the grim reality for everything right now, is if you want something to exist, you have to put money towards it. Every creative person is having their life's work hoovered up by AI companies. Layoffs never end. Private equity keeps making things worse.

People are so broken they are now outsourcing fun to AI.
Just saw someone say their AI runs their fantasy football team and I can’t stop laughing. Like, I’m sure everyone’s doing it or something but it’s very funny to me that pretending to be a team manager was so hard that you needed to pretend to pretend to be a team manager

Rode in a Honda CRV rental and was delighted to see smart, decipherable knobs. After more than a decade in the desert of button banks with tiny icons and oversized swipey touchscreens, Honda has finally seen the light. Let all automakers tow this failed test of dashboard ergonomics to the scrapyard.

At @thehenryford's #FabricofAmerica exhibit there was a section on influential American designers. There, by a wonderful surprise, I saw this 1948-1950 dress by Claire McCardell! I adore McCardell. She was known for her practical designs, minimalism, inventive fastenings, and, as

seeing conservative men debate how to dress online is very funny. can't dress up or wear interesting casualwear bc you've made any visible interest in dress to be a sign of homosexuality. but you feel the need to dress better bc you've linked dress to respectability. a prison of your own making.

I don’t think I’m ever going to get the appeal of pivoting to video for podcasts. I’ve been listening to podcasts for 20 years, and never once have I thought, my God, I need to SEE these people! I’m on a walk or doing the dishes, I don’t need video.

My favourite bit of this article: Since it began surveys in May, the Countryside Regeneration Trust has installed 39 footprint tunnels along hedgerows and woodland edges, with nine of the tunnels recording dormouse footprints. Imagine a tunnel small enough to allow dormouse access.

Money really is the root of all evil
Screencap of Playboy interview with Google cofounder Sergei Brin. Text reads:
“PLAYBOY: Is your company motto really ‘Don't be evil’?
“BRIN: Yes, it's real.
“PLAYBOY: Is it a written code?

🚨Beware of political deepfakes this election season. 🚨 AI can make candidates appear to say or do things that never happened. And even in states with deepfake laws, you may still see them. And an AI warning label on social media doesn’t necessarily mean the content will be taken down.

As AI political deepfakes go viral, lawmakers struggle to keep up – 2 states’ laws show limits of what they can do
Most states require warnings on AI-generated political ads, but studies show these disclosures do little to alter people’s willingness to share the content. Most states have legislated election deepfakes by requiring a warning 28 states require disclosures on the media
