This feels similar to me to something Marx said about the isolation that capitalism intentionally creates, wherein products appear to simply fall from the sky with price tags attached and with no human hand involved in their creation at all. People are now viewing art in the same way, I think.

It seems people are often afraid of liking their own art work due to the worry of being perceived as egotistical or conceited, but you can still love your work and have a huge driving force behind that acting as a love for learning and improving. You can be proud and seek joy while you grow.

Tsukioka Yoshitoshi aka Yoshitoshi Tsukioka aka 月岡 芳年 aka Taiso Yoshitoshi aka 大蘇 芳年 (Japanese, 1839-1892, b. Edo, Japan) - Komori No Godan (Bats), c. 1880-1883, Woodblock Prints: Ink, Color on Paper
This whimsical and imaginative woodblock print, titled "Komori No Godan" (Bats), was created by the legendary Meiji-era artist Tsukioka Yoshitoshi between 1880 and 1883. The artwork belongs to a series that parodies popular kabuki plays, portraying bats in anthropomorphic roles. In this scene, two bats are depicted with human-like qualities and accessories against a muted, light purple background.

The bat on the right stands upright, its wings partially spread like a cloak. It holds a closed, dark western-style umbrella in one claw and a small, patterned cloth or wallet in the other. To the left, a second bat is shown in a dynamic, reclined position, using its wing to support another umbrella that is partially open. Between them on the ground sits a small, yellow fan-like object. Yoshitoshi’s characteristic line work brings a sense of personality and humor to the creatures, blending the supernatural with the mundane. The print features the artist's signature and red seal on the right side, serving as a fascinating example of his versatile creative output during the late 19th century.

I thought about how the kids of the future would find me strange for all of my hyperaware survival instincts that had been rendered moot by living in a kinder world. I thought about living in a future where the average kid came out in, like, middle school and their teachers called them their new name the next day with a little fanfare before class and everyone politely clapped and then they went to lunch later and their friends were like hey cool name, did you see the big game last night? The game was probably Overwatch or something. To these kids of the future, the old trans lady whose purse was full of tourniquets and who ran her eyes up and down the silhouette of every guy with an American flag on his t-shirt looking for the bulge of a gun or a menacing tattoo on his forearm, like she was Jason Bourne walking into a diner, would probably seem really alien and strange.

something i really love about bill watterson: his (well-earned) mystique comes from his privacy, not from sharing a notion with many of his peers that art is a divine, magical process. when he DOES speak to the public he distills and clarifies the craft in such amazingly practical, articulate terms
WATTERSON: Right. What I have enjoyed about Calvin is that I feel I’ve got the range to do what I want, that he can be childish at some points and not at others. The whole challenge really is to set up rules. You can make your cartoon world have as much sense or as little sense as you want to, and the main thing is that you’re consistent within that vision. I think the audience will go along with you. It doesn’t have to be one or the other.WATTERSON: I think it’s the way I’m most comfortable writing. I like to work within certain confines. The aspect of the strip that I have the most fun playing with is the personalities and the characters. In other words, their interaction is what is interesting to me, not the playing with the form of the comic strip. I’ll qualify that. Visually, I like to play with the form, but, for example, Bloom County occasionally has a narrator. It’s a wonderful device, but it doesn’t really fit my needs. What I’m trying to do in Calvin and Hobbes is make it realistic enough so that I can explore the ideas that interest me without making it so realistic that it confines me.Most strips grow when new characters are added periodically, and I expect to do that once in a while, but I think they will always be minor characters. I don’t expect to add a major character into the center of the strip. The strip’s world is a very small, insulated one, which, I think, is more natural to me.

What I found to be true of the earlier strips I developed was that I was often making my cast much greater than I had the authority to speak about. I was trying to deal with friendships and relationships that I don’t understand. With Calvin and Hobbes, I don’t really think of them as a comedy team that dances on stage and does an act for you. It’s a very natural and personal friendship of the type that I’m most familiar and comfortable with myself.Watterson: I write separately from the inking up. I'm sure this varies from cartoonist to cartoonist; I find that the writing is the hard part and the drawing is the fun part. I like to separate the two so I can give my full attention to one or the other. Writing it, I'll sit down and stare into space for an hour and sometimes not come up with a single decent idea, or sometimes no idea at all, and it's very tempting to go do something else or just draw up a strip, but I find that if I make myself stick to it for another hour I can sometimes come up with several good ideas. And when I get to the drawing, I really enjoy taking a big chunk of time and working on the drawing and nothing else. That allows me to make sure that I'm really challenging the art, making each picture as interesting as I can...stick in a close-up or an odd perspective. This way, the writing doesn't distract me while I'm drawing and vice versa. I can devote my full attention to each.

Furry has been kinky since the beginning as illustrated by these photos from Confurence 1993 (curated by www.instagram.com/d0gfag/) There has always been a demand for adult spaces in furry.
