With Mr. Scorsese, I felt I should have at least one documentary show on the list. And Undone is just impeccable. But seasons 2-5 of The Magicians are so good, and at such a high difficulty level, that I couldn't ignore it.

My personal NY Times 10 best ballot, though I went specifically for "10 best shows that SHOULD'VE been on the list." Gleeful comedy Legends of Tomorrow seasons 3-5 is an insanely great run and contains the most dementedly funny fight scene I've ever seen. ("Beeebo WANT CUDDLES!")

yes. that's *despite* the impeachments, not because of them. he had a corrupt Republican party that was also massively loyal and authoritarian and several billionaires willing to sabotage the media environment and a year (2024) in which every incumbent party lost.

wrong. Trump's 1st impeachment badly damaged him. Impeachment sucks up oxygen and it forces Republicans to defend ever-more unpopular and ever-more criminal ideas.

Yeah, this has been my suggestion for a while. Also: you can prosecute most of the people who accepted Donald Trump's pardons from this term bc they essentially committed bribery to get said pardons.

Do it strategically. Impeach for one set of high crimes and misdemeanors at a time. They beat the rap for infringing the First Amendment? Try them again on the Fourteenth. Then the Fourth. Then the Equal Protection Clause, and so on until their authoritarian agenda is in ruins.

2/3 made him realize that, as a Southerner, he needed to pass *a* civil rights bill. His efforts to maneuver the Senate past the segregationists were *heroic*… but they also resulted in a bill that was INCREDIBLY weak, by design, with the hope that it could be amended later.

1/3 LBJ's record on civil rights as a President is outstanding. But in the Senate it's *way* more complicated, per Robert Caro in MASTER OF THE SENATE. He sided with the Southern conservatives, sabotaging civil rights bills, all the way up to 1957. NOW, in 1957, his Presidential ambitions…
