Dems: It’s always stronger to stand up for your beliefs than to modulate to appease an audience. People like strong in politics. Even if they disagree with you, they’ll respect you more for being forthright. The best approach is to acknowledge areas of disagreement and pivot to areas of overlap.

Of course Councilmembers Imelda Padilla and Traci Park want LA's Capital Infrastructure Program to be restructured so they can retain local control over the projects that get prioritized in their districts 🤦🏼‍♀️
GOVERIWMENT OPERATIONS
MOTION
PUBLIC WORKS Currently, the City plans, develops, and implements its capital projects, including municipal facilities, parks, sewage and clean water projects, and street infrastructure, through the Capital and Technology Improvement Expenditure Program, which is approved through the City's annual budget process. Critics of the City's current process have raised issues with how the City's current selection of capital projects lacks transparency, does not take into consideration long-term goals and needs of the City, and does not contemplate maintenance needs to keep the capital projects the City delivers in good condition to extend their
usable life cycles. As part of Executive Directive 9 (ED9), the Mayor brought together City departments to address concerns with the City's capital planning process; and also with the stated goal of streamlining coordination between the departments that deliver capital projects and ensuring that the City makes its capital investments equitably and based on actual need. This kind of proactive, citywide leadership is precisely what is needed to modernize a capital planning system that has gone without meaningful reform for too long. Per the directive, instructions were provided that "The City Administrative Officer shall, as part of the Committee and upon agreement with it, publish a Capital Infrastructure Plan (CIP), which will replace the Physical Plant
Projects (other than Clean Water) portion of the Five-Year Capital and Technology Improvement Plan (CTIP)." In response to Executive Directive 9, the Bureau of Engineering is now proposing a new Capital Infrastructure Plan that, if adopted, would replace the Capital and Technology Improvement Expenditure Program and the process by which the City plans and implements capital projects (C.F. 25-0752 and C.F. 26-0758). Despite the clear aforementioned language in the directive, the report states that it will "decommission the existing CAO-led Annual Capital a…

Overtime costs for most departments only go up while case clearance rates mostly remain low and black people keep dying. Yet it's wrong to say "maybe we could use that money in better ways," because then you wind up as a chyron on Fox & Friends.

Statements from Dems like this one make it harder to press for Supreme Court reform. This ruling was a near-disaster and shows how unhinged SCOTUS has become—now just one vote away from overturning the 14th Amendment. But a sitting senator says they "applaud" the ruling.
BREAKING: Rosen Applauds Supreme Court Decision Protecting Birthright Citizenship

WASHINGTON, DC - Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) issued a statement applauding the Supreme Court’s decision in the Trump vs. Barbara case, striking down Donald Trump’s unconstitutional attempt to take away citizenship from children born in the U.S.

“It has always been clear: a child born in the United States is an American citizen,” said Senator Rosen. “I applaud the Supreme Court’s decision today to defend the U.S. Constitution and honor the right to automatic citizenship for all U.S.-born children. Today’s decision also makes clear that Donald Trump is not above the law, and he cannot unilaterally take away anyone’s constitutional rights.”

Senator Rosen has led Congressional efforts to protect citizenship for children born in the U.S. In February, Senator Rosen led an amicus brief in Trump vs. Barbara, demanding the protection of birthright citizenship as guaranteed by the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. Last year, she led Senate colleagues in introducing the Born in the USA Act, which would effectively block the implementation of President Trump’s unconstitutional Executive Order attempting to end automatic citizenship for children born in the United States.
