the voucher program discussed in the article was created specifically for students with disabilities but before that? in the american context, private school vouchers became popular as a way of resisting school desegregation. that should always be part of the conversation about vouchers!!

Everytime I post about this I have to clarify this point. No. They don't like him because he provides clicks, or "easy content" or ratings. They like him because they agree with him. They think he's a good President and like his policies and want to help him take even more power.

low info voters are constantly being convinced that Republicans have more moderate policies (and Democrats more left wing policies) than they actually do and the mainstream media is a huge accomplice in this effort.

The rise of vocationalization of education is a linchpin of this: education has to have a job preparation function in the progressive liberal spaces too. Its why the only student loan discharge programs are tied to employment or disability.

It would help if every centrist who says they’d love to abolish ICE or end a genocide or protect trans people or get to universal healthcare but “you have to think about elections” would admit they just don’t want to do any of those things and are quietly fine with fascism if it doesn’t touch them.

This is because class, in the historical materialist sense, transcends apparent political differentiation in the majority of people. If you work for a living, and can be fired and have your life taken from you by not being able to work, you are part of the proletariate.

Democratic politicians know that ICE isn’t just murdering people or kidnapping children or terrorizing constituents they’re sworn to protect, they know they’re constructing a system of concentration camps around the country. And they still cant be bothered to stand up against them.

ICE was only created in 2003. Contrast that with USAID which was created in 1961 and was just dismantled. We did fine without ICE and would again. In fact we did fine without DHS which was always a terrible idea, starting with the name. Get rid of both.

A 13-year-old boy was arrested by ICE in Everett and sent to a juvenile detention facility in Virginia.
A 13-year-old boy was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Everett after an interaction with members of the Everett Police Department and sent to a juvenile detention facility in Virginia, according to his mother and immigration lawyer Andrew Lattarulo.

The boy’s mother, Josiele Berto, was called to pick her son up from the Everett Police Department on Thursday, the day he was arrested. After waiting for about an hour and a half, she was told her son was taken by ICE, Berto told the Globe in a phone interview.

“My world collapsed,” Berto said in Portuguese.

From the police department, the boy was taken to ICE’s holding facility in Burlington on Thursday evening, where he spent a night before being transferred by car to the Northwestern Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Winchester, Va., on Friday morning, his mother said. The juvenile facility is more than 500 miles away from Everett.

The boy is a 7th-grader at Albert N. Parlin School in Everett, his mother said. The teen and his family, who are Brazilian nationals, have a pending asylum case and are authorized to work legally in the United States, Lattarulo said.
