It feels genuinely ridiculous having to say this, but the point of art is to connect with another human. Someone thought of that painting or melodic line or scene or paragraph that is suddenly making you weep, and that means that they saw you and understood you without even meeting you.

Congress passed the Corporate Transparency Act. Trump vetoed it. Congress overrode his veto on a bipartisan vote. So Trump has decided to simply not enforce the law. I do not understand the role of Congress anymore. I guess they just make suggestions?

US inflation is the highest in the G7.

Talarico: “Call me old fashioned, but a man takes responsibility.” This is exactly right. There are traditional values of what it is to be a man: protect the weak, support the family, stand up for what’s right. The MAGA view of a man is about appearances and bullying, the opposite of manhood.

This advice from Octavia Butler is the way to respond to dangerous politicians: show the personal relevancy their words and deeds have to the individual voter. The politician who calls opponents childish names will lead you as a child would, incapable of forethought and caring. And so on.
