Okay, class, today we look at conflicts of interest. An amateur US diplomat negotiating with Israel is a stakeholder in the Israeli defense industry. Define the conflict. Yes, in the third row? "His job is to end the war, but his investments prosper more if war continues." Correct!

To be clear: the Hatch Act doesn't cover Trump or Vance - but it covers every other federal employee who got these ads on the air at taxpayer expense. Could Trump be found to have conspired in their Hatch Act violations? Maybe - but it would be tested under the SCOTUS immunity rule.

Using taxpayer money to run political ads - in this case, an ad blatantly repurposed from his 2024 campaign - is a violation of the Hatch Act. Insanely, the act doesn't apply to a POTUS. But an actual Congress would haul in everyone else involved and demand some answers.

Maybe just mention that a federal judge has already concluded the CNN ban is probably unconstitutional - in an order that Trump is likely defying this very minute? Asking for Trump's pardon implies a) CNN did something wrong, and b) Trump can violate the Constitution if he wants to.
