Google finally updated some of its satellite images of Gaza and my god, it's horrific. The entirety of Rafah has been demolished. The majority of Khan Younis is in ruins. Entire towns completely leveled and erased of the map.

DoorDash has ripped off more than 260,000 NYC delivery workers. We’re making them pay $131.5 million — the largest worker settlement in City history. This is New York, where hard work pays and greed will cost you.
DoorDash messed up.
They repeatedly left more than 260,000 NYC delivery workers underpaid or paid late, causing them immense stress and financial difficulty.
That's unacceptable.
We've secured a $131.5M settlement from
DoorDash - the largest worker settlement in NYC history and largest delivery worker settlement in
American municipal history.
Every worker will be paid what they are owed, and every company will be forced to abide by the laws of this city.

Hubble Servicing Missi#256C - From Goddard Space Flight Center - flic.kr/p/2cjpXhS
In celebration of the 25th anniversary of NASA's first space servicing mission to the Hubble Space Telescope, we are sharing this gallery of images from all five of the Hubble servicing missions.

Astronauts serviced Hubble for the first time in December 1993. Including that trip, there have been five astronaut servicing missions to Hubble between 1993 and 2009.

How did astronauts repair and service the Hubble Space Telescope more than 300 miles above the surface of the Earth? Watch Hubble astronauts as they discuss servicing from the innovative Robotics Operations Center: bit.ly/2EiiNTP

Anthropic plans to publish regular report on how much R&D work Claude “leads” meaning a human gives a high level prompt and Claude does the work. It is now at 26% from 1% in March. Overall 90% of R&D work is AI assisted. This is just another sales pitch where Anthropic markets cognitive surrender.

Hubble Witnesses Massive Comet-Like Object Pollute Atmosphere of a White Dwarf - From Goddard Space Flight Center - flic.kr/p/RMZgCt
For the first time, scientists using NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope have witnessed a massive object with the makeup of a comet being ripped apart and scattered in the atmosphere of a white dwarf, the burned-out remains of a compact star. The object has a chemical composition similar to Halley’s Comet, but it is 100,000 times more massive and has a much higher amount of water. It is also rich in the elements essential for life, including nitrogen, carbon, oxygen, and sulfur.

These findings are evidence for a belt of comet-like bodies orbiting the white dwarf, similar to our solar system’s Kuiper Belt. These icy bodies apparently survived the star’s evolution as it became a bloated red giant and then collapsed to a small, dense white dwarf.

Caption: This artist's concept shows a massive, comet-like object falling toward a white dwarf. New Hubble Space Telescope findings are evidence for a belt of comet-like bodies orbiting the white dwarf, similar to our solar system's Kuiper Belt. The findings also suggest the presence of one or more unseen surviving planets around the white dwarf, which may have perturbed the belt to hurl icy objects into the burned-out star.

Will we see a third AI winter if the economic returns fail to match the promises? AI can make individual tasks 10x faster while only making a business 10% more productive because everything else becomes the bottleneck. Useful technology but possibly terrible ROI at current spending levels.

FWIW I don’t think that AI is an existential threat, nor on track to become one. I do however think that the leaders of the biggest AI companies, AI’s strongest boosters, and some of the folks who are most adept at using it to exploit others are actively hastening along OTHER existential threats.

OpenAI’s GPT-6 Astra ad shows why CEOs love AI so much. Giving vague commands that get turned into real results by their staff is how they work. Now with AI they don’t even need people. However if you’re the one doing work with AI, you have to deal with “You’re absolutely right, I messed up” daily.
