TBH it’s cool they had to let Du Bois, Beauvoir, Marx, and Morrison slip through. It’s censorious, but i could work with that

AI polling results can lean on racial or partisan stereotypes

In many cases, our AI poll took beliefs or attitudes that are reasonably common among a particular subgroup and portrayed them as nearly ubiquitous. For example, our AI poll would indicate that:

97% of Hispanic adults are at least somewhat likely to follow the World Cup (while the actual share is 43%).

Most human societies do not pursue ecocide and genocide: it’s telling of their eugenicist origins that EAs naturalize it

One of the problems with the AI industry being run by apocalyptic millenarian cultists isn’t that their end of the world scenarios are made up; it’s that like other similar millennialists, they think their desired end of the world is a utopia and they’ll do whatever they can to make it real.

Obviously it’s good to critique the thing in particular in order to challenge it in general. But tech criticism so often goes after the most salacious side & allows for false narrow “solutions” to capture the discourse (age gating for the young & not elderly, cookie popups for privacy, x-risk shif)

If coding is in many senses an application of math and mathematical formalisms the question of what math is for, and how it progresses, matters a lot if we dare to imagine a computing that serves human needs and doesn’t subject us to constant ransomware, random error, and bureaucratic subordination

There’s such a gap between developers’ perceptions of the power of LLMs for coding (real, if specific) and consumers sense of the actual quality, reliability, and cost of consumer software. People use the chatbots, but apps are getting more bloated not more reliable, “computer says no” more often

I think some version of that story is true, but it has to pass through things like the shift from public goods to distributed asset ownership, the effects of mccarthyism and the global cold war on the labour and social democratic movements, desegregation incl. of unions and backlashes, and so on.

Kavi … @geryon.bsky.social · 10/09/2026
