I counted 68 Bogong Moths this afternoon riding down 500m of road, and you can barely reload iNaturalist fast enough for all the records coming in... In the words of one researcher quoted this week, “I just feel so lucky. I feel like we have been blessed by the moth gods.”

Understandably, much of the initially released high-resolution open satellite imagery for the Nepal disaster has focused on the upper reaches of the valley, but imagery is desperately needed on the lower slopes, where the terrain has allowed the flood waters to spread more widely.

Much of the area in Timure that was destroyed was 35- 50m above the river and was still swept away by the torrent of water and mud. Absolutely apocalyptic. A lot of Gosaikunda is 25-35m above the river. Above Resuo, the torrent appears to have breached well over 100m.

Satellite imagery shows the slip scar from a glacier on the northern slope of Langtang Lirung, which collapsed & caused the Bhote Koshi–Trishuli Outburst Flood in Nepal and Tibet yesterday. A whole side of the mountain fell off and snowballed into the massive downstream tragedy.

Recent satellite imagery from Jan shows the resistance-aligned Kachin Independence Army establishing fortified frontlines on the outskirts of the Kachin capital, Myitkyina (close to Waingmaw town). For much of the war, the resistance has been asymmetrical. Now not as much.

Following the collapse of TNLA and SAC talks in Burma, the resistance group has restarted their offensive on the major artillery command in Taung Hkam. Sit-Tat strike footage shows that they have already reached Manmaw village and isolated the two garrisons in the command.

The Karenni resistance in Burma just captured the final Junta border outpost in the state, Taung Katone (တောင်ကတုံး), ~40 border outposts were captured/abandoned in total since the start of the coup, and there is now a stretch of 350km of the Thai border with NO junta presence.

Over the weekend, a second battalion in the Burmese city of Bhamo fell to the Kachin Independence Army in their months-long offensive. This follows the airport and an armoured battalion which were captured in Jan. It also splits the remaining Junta camps into 3 pockets.

The Arakan Army in western Myanmar has now advanced 10km into Ayeyarwady Region along the Gwa axis, ~20km into Ayeyarwady towards Bawmi, has reached the border on the Toungup axis and is clashing within a few kilometres of the Magway border along the Ann axis. The message is clear. They will push.

There have been many cases of HKSARG using the "justice" system as a tool of suppression in Hong Kong post 2019 but convicting the victims of the Yuen Long attack (7.21) is so fucking low, so scummy, makes a complete mockery of justice or law I can't really express how fucked up it is.
