Just a woman living in Australia doomscrolling through the climate crisis, misogyny and the plague while trying to appreciate beauty and humour and raise well adjusted offspring. Also I like novels and I'm heaps traumatised.

Don’t ask me. My @smh @theage cartoon.
Six frames. 1. Fellow with clipboard bails up woman passer-by, says, “Excuse me, I’m doing a short survey. Do you think Australia takes in too many immigrants?” 2. She says,”I don’t know. I mean, are we talking about the immigrants who look after my mother in the aged care home?” 3. She continues: “Or the ones who come here to pick fruit for low wages so we have affordable fresh produce?” 4. “Or the ones working in construction to build our housing and infrastructure?” 5. “Or those training to be the medical specialists were short of?” 6. “I really don’t know. Maybe you could ask the government. They should know.”

Let’s be clear here, when scientists say mistakes were made at the start of the pandemic, we DO NOT mean that we did too much. We mean not socially distancing quickly enough, not making tests widely available, and not acknowledging COVID is airborne and distributing N95 masks to everyone.

Our remaining forests in the Amazon and the Congo Basin are the ultimate defense line against climate change. Allowing their destruction isn't just local negligence,it’s global ecocide. We must demand environmental sustainability now.

Two panel comic. Panel 1: a chrysalis hangs from a branch in a tree. Panel 2: inside the chrysalis is a small room. A caterpillar is sitting on the floor looking exhausted and frustrated with its head in its hand. Scattered on the floor around the caterpillar are large parts of butterfly wings in boxes like pieces of furniture that require assembly, and an electric drill, and a beer.

This is Chootie. He looks like a dog, but from one of those 15th century paintings done by someone who had only ever heard about dogs. 12/10 (IG: chootieboy)
a very fluffy white creature with light brown markings on its back and ears is resting flat on some concrete tiles with a body like a slightly inflated bearskin rug. his legs and tail are merely puffy nubs, but his front paws are completely shaved for hygiene purposes, giving him the grabby-hands look of a feral raccoon. his face is an exuberant expression, with all his features slightly too close together, including his mismatched and somewhat human brown and blue eyes. he is simultaneously ridiculous and delightful.

Someday when this is all over, our atoms will lose cohesion and drift apart, and that's ok. They'll combine with other atoms to form new gnarled oaks, fainting goats, and haunted cottages that float through the woods, wreathed in moss & gloom.

Incredible chart (from otherwise depressing news story about bad advice being given to new parents) showing how cot deaths fell by 50% in the first year after the 'Back to Sleep' campaign was launched, and have continued to fall since. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
Chart of sudden infant deaths. Numbers are between 1,000 and 1,500 every years from 1979 to 1990, then after the 1991 introduction of the 'Back to Sleep' campaign (advising parents to put their baby to sleep on its back), fall immediately to below 500 and are now around the 200-a-year mark.

Refutations to Anti-Vaccine Memes Originally this cartoon was about Covid vaccination, but it's just as relevant to measles, pertussis, and all the other vaccine-preventable diseases.
ALT TEXT: a single panel cartoon by cartoonist Bill Bramhall. It shows a road through a desert, with a sign with an arrow pointing forwards. The sign reads:
HERD IMMUNITY
An obese man is sitting on a huge iron ball chained to the leg of a man crawling along the road towards the sign. The obese man's shirt reads:
ANTI-VAXXERS
The crawling man's shirt reads:
EVERYONE ELSE

10 years ago, if there'd been a Hollywood film featuring a rogue POTUS who was gearing up to launch a nuclear strike on literally anywhere, Bruce Willis would have gone through Hell and high water to shoot that fucker in the face. And that would have been the correct outcome.

A spring style suggestion: dress like Peter Rabbit. I wrote something for Mr. Porter about why I think gardening clothes look great. The clothes look better with age and reference a lifestyle that's been considered romantic for centuries. www.mrporter.com/en-us/journa...
Alfie Nickerson in a bright yellow zip-up jacket and blue shorts, along with beaten brown Blundstones. They are carrying flowers and a dog. Monty Don wearing a weathered French chore coat, blue shirt, and weathered French work pants. He's holding a tool in the garden. Ashley Edwards wearing a blue sweater, gray neck warmer, and gray beanie. He's sitting in the garden.

Maybe instead of focusing on the individuals who were the "leaders" (I use that term VERY loosely), we should take a look at the platforms and policies of the political party they represented, and how it has remained consistent over the past 50 years... One man alone cannot do this much damage.
