In "Captive Ecologies," Jennifer C. James @femmenoire.bsky.social makes a case for the ecological significance of slavery’s afterlife, examining Black literature and art to trace the entanglements between racial capitalism and Black ecological freedom. Read the intro for free now: buff.ly/I5cfkh8
Cover of Captive Ecologies: The Environmental Afterlives of Slavery by Jennifer C. James. The upper quarter features the title on the left against a solid blue background. The subtitle and author name are adjacent on a black background. All text is in white serif font. The rest of the cover is a photograph of a solitary figure in dark clothing walking across a glacier with distant, snowy mountains.

"no birding today," I told myself, "too much unscheduled birding yesterday and you're covered in bug bites, there's a motocross event and a concert nearby that'll make it too noisy, don't even charge your camera batteries" the warblers in my backyard park: lol
screenshot of my eBird report of the warblers in my backyard park this afternoon, conservative counts include 3 Ovenbirds, 2 Black-and-white Warblers, 10 American Redstarts, 4 Magnolia Warblers, 2 Bay-breasted Warblers, and 1 Black-throated Blue Warbler.

Good morning from @altyellonatpark.org How are Pronghorn the fastest critter on four feet this side of the Prime Maridian ? Well for starters they have 13 gears.
A female pronghorn with her tail patch raised and in a gait that in a horse would be crossfiring but works for a pronghorn due to their unique hips. Running across a field of flowers.

To be loved is to be changed.
Dragon, a scruffy grey stray, squints and hisses at the camera from a garage floor after being rescued. Large patches of fur are shaved away after he got beat up by other cats and he has lacerations all over his body. His eyes are squinty and crusty.Dragon — a little more than 3 months later — looks much healthier. His face is calm and smiley with his beautiful green eyes open to the world. He is wearing a little green shirt with a teddy bear on it because it stops him from meowing in the middle of the night when he feels comfy and secure.
