The youngest person his pager attack killed was 9-year-old Fatima Abdullah, who had just started 4th grade. The pager was on a table when it went off and she picked it up to take to her dad. It exploded in her face and reports said it covered the room in her blood. She wanted to learn English.

Did you all know Chinese law has a 30 day "cool off period" before a divorce can be finalized? And that there is a carve out for domestic violence/abuse but only if a court recognizes it? And that Beijing's courts recognize about 6% of cases raised as abuse?

Screenshot of article which reads: We are surrounded by a petrified silence for self-preservation, the
predominant institutional feeling in our present. Perhaps the framework
of anticipatory complicity for our universities helps us better confront the
profound existential crisis our fields face with internal attacks on gender
ideology that have exposed scholars of women, gender, and sexuality to
ruthless scrutiny. We need to reckon with not only the shockingly rapid
dismantling of our field of gender and sexuality studies in 2025 and the
lack of substantial opposition and a defense of academic freedom in the
university today, but decades of starvation of WGSS by colleges and uni-
versities. Then we might find new ways to contest the university’s com-
plicity with the only actual gender ideology at play today: state-enforced
gender binarism.

Historically, the process by which newly conquered peripheral populations were compelled to adopt the cultural norms of the Han Chinese heartland has been referred to as “Hanification” (漢化) or, occasionally, “Hua-ification” (華化). In the context of Hong Kong, the imposition of authoritarian Communist Party-style rule is variously known as “mainlandisation” (大陸化) or “reddening” (赤化).

In English, however, these all are often folded into “Sinicization” with the same corrosive reductionism we see when the concepts of ethnic Chinese huaren (華人) and PRC citizens Zhongguoren (中國人) are used interchangeably in the West, unconsciously lending rhetorical weight both to Beijing’s claims to represent the interests of diasporic communities and xenophobes’ belief that these communities should be eyed with suspicion as potential fifth-columnists.

When we talk about the Sinicization in China today (that is, 中國化), we are referring not just to the imposition of a Han-centric cultural identity but also that of a very particular political identity — one that is sold as inherently and timelessly Chinese but is, in fact, particular to the PRC under its current leadership.

In which the Deputy Secretary of the Senate Democratic Caucus joins in on the dunking of the former DNC Chair after NYC DSA candidates endorsed by Zohran Mamdani achieve a clean sweep of AIPAC and establishment-backed candidates up and down the ballots:
Chris Murphy @ChrisMurphyCT
I don’t know man, who is “the Democratic Party” if it’s not the voters?Democratic voters choose candidates, not party leaders. And party leaders need to listen to what voters are telling us - and right now they are demanding our party be bolder.

Quote
Jaime Harrison @harrisonjaime · 5h
I say this with no ill will or animosity: if you hate the Democratic Party, then please don’t run for our nomination.

Don’t use our resources. Don’t rely on our volunteers. Don’t use our infrastructure. Don’t ask Democrats to invest their time, money, and energy in your campaign.

Focus on building the party you actually support.

Political parties aren’t perfect, but they’re built by millions of people who knock doors, make calls, organize meetings, and fight for the values they believe in. If you don’t believe in the party, then don’t ask its members to carry you across the finish line.
