The reason Epstein’s urologist would no longer be seeing patients at Cornell is he was abusing boys. Paduch was sentenced to life in prison. But Cornell wanted to make sure Epstein saw one of their other physicians instead of leaving Cornell. In 2019!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ht @alyssaburgart.com

One of the 7 men in Jane Doe’s lawsuit sued Cornell (and lost—they are currently appealing). Here is what his punishment was for “attempted sexual exploitation”—a class and a paper. (Gift link) www.nytimes.com/2026/10/02/n...
The court records filed in John Doe's case show that, after a 12-day evidentiary hearing in which he faced charges of sexual assault and sexual exploitation, he was found responsible for attempted sexual exploitation.
They also show the punishments he received following the decision, including a one-way no-contact order with the woman, a requirement that he take a class about social media use and sexual harassment and an order to write a reflection paper specifically addressing his actions.

All of this. I also want to add that, in my research, I found that a lot of “inconsistencies” in a victim’s story actually came from gender bias affecting investigators’ record keeping and interview methods.

People like to assume that memory is like a set linear record of information. It isn’t. Information will often come out in details that are not organized, with sensory information intertwined. As details unfold, this cues other information.

It’s not unusual for someone to gain a better understanding of what happened after talking to people about it. One of the times I was sexually assaulted, I was explaining what happened to a friend, and she said, “That’s rape.” She was right, and it was hard for me to label it that way. I’m not…

The survivor’s own words, according to the transcript from her police interview in 2024: "I can say with 100% confidence I was raped." The DA misrepresented her words and implied she was lying, sending the manosphere after her. As long as he is in charge, she will not get justice.

The DA in Ithaca cares more about defending himself than caring for the Cornell survivor. I am irate—he threw her under the bus to protect his own hide. Now men all over the internet are trying to dox her bc the DA said what happened was “consensual.” (Ppl love to report consensual sex acts, right?)

I have a couple of viral posts about the situation at Cornell over on IG. Someone named Jack decided to chime in, saying she “deserved it” and the men “did nothing wrong.” He’s got his name on his account and fears no repercussion, which says as much about our society as it does about him.

The woman at Cornell was invited to the frat by Matthew Ingalls, who she thought was a friend. She was already drunk when she got there. He gave her another drink and ketamine, then dragged her into a room with another man. Johnathan Newell is the one who announced “free pu**y” to the group chat.

It’s a mistake to think there’s anything about this story that is unique to Cornell. One in five women is sexually assaulted at college. The majority of them experience institutional betrayal if they report. I would like to believe this story will change that, but I doubt it will.

Really appreciate this talk from Dr. Pikula discussing the exodus of women from medicine in midlife. 36% of women physicians leave medicine around 15+ years into practice. This is largely due to systemic factors such as discrimination, pay gap, lack of support, etc. What a dramatic loss of talent.

Love this reframing of how we introduce ourselves by @adairalandrymd.bsky.social! Instead of introducing ourselves with our titles, we can be much more compelling by talking about what problem we are trying to solve and what we hope to do.

“Your title tells people where
you work. The problem you are solving tells them why it matters.

“Problem First
Introduction
My name is Professor Mary Ortiz. I'm an oncologist dismantling the roadblocks for colon cancer screening. I do this through my lab, as a Pl, where I have raised over $1 million dollars in NIH funding to build a team of researchers aligned with this mission. My publications have helped create more awareness and have been covered by CNN and GMA. I speak regularly before Congress. I'm looking to work with CEOs of screening companies to better align their mission with our data.”

I’m not a pathologist, but here are typical pulmonary findings in drowning: “Typically, copious white, pink, or red froth and fluid exude from the lumen of the sectioned larynx, trachea, and bronchial tubes as well as the cut surfaces of the lung parenchyma” pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC...
significant differences observed between fresh- and saltwater cases (68, 69). With increased postmortem submersion intervals, inclusive of decompositional changes, decreased lung weights along with increased amounts of pleural fluid have been described
(69). As a result of overexpansion with rupture of alveolar capillaries, blotchy areas of hemorrhage (also referred to a Paltauf's spots) may be visible on the pleural surface.
Extravasated blood resulting from alveolar capillary rupture is the likely source of the pink or red-tinged froth noted on
examination. Typically, copious white, pink, or red froth and fluid exude from the lumen
of the sectioned larynx, trachea, and bronchial tubes as well as the cut surfaces of
the lung parenchyma (Image 9). The fluid also may be admixed with aquatic debris (Image 10).

I’m seeing a lot of backlash to this essay, but what I see is a thoughtful parent wanting to live in a manner consistent with her values and later finding those choices were inconsistent with prioritizing her daughter because it was not possible to do both.
