Rest in peace, Wendell Berry.
The Peace of Wild Things
Wendell Berry

When despair for the world grows in me and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children's lives may be, I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things who do not tax their lives with forethought of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars waiting with their light. For a time I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.

This is the decision I made. I'm an American citizen and could have applied to schools in the US if I wanted to. It would have given me a lot more options and made life easier in a lot of ways. But I came to the conclusion it's not safe to be there. So I only applied to Canadian and UK schools.

A good example of how FND is often triggered by physiological conditions. It's really common for people with FND to have other conditions - whether something long-lived like Parkinson's or epilepsy, or a temporary condition that trips the brain up and causes things to go haywire.

Someday it will be well-understood that FND is a common and highly disabling condition, which affects millions of people, who told the truth about their experience, and the stigma and disbelief we encounter today will seem unbelievable.
