Too many younger people have given up on the dream of ever having a home to call their own. This government is working to help young people like my constituents in Heywood and Middleton North to get started on the housing ladder, with just a 2.5% deposit.

This Labour Government is ending the snobbery towards technical education and giving EVERY young person a shot at a future they can be proud of.

The cost of living is my constituents' biggest concern in Heywood and Middleton North. It's why it's so important that the Prime Minister has acted in his first 2 months to create a bit of breathing space. Much more to do, but Labour is working to make life a little bit easier.

Proud to have joined a rally of fantastic women - in celebration of the Employment Rights Act - and what we need to do now to build on it. I spoke on how we can make our workplaces more secure for women living with endometriosis and other debilitating conditions.

Great to speak on a range of subjects at the Labour Party Conference this week, including how transport investment in the North can drive economic growth, the Employment Rights Act, and jobs and skills across the warehousing and logistics sectors.

Fantastic to celebrate the achievements of our trade unions last night - especially the game-changing Employment Rights Act. Brilliant to see Angela Rayner, Usdaw’s Joanne Thomas and others capture the difference our unions are making.

A pleasure to join Hopwood Hall College at Rochdale Town Hall for the launch of its strategy through to 2031. It was particularly Inspiring to hear from former student Glory Frank, now an ICU nurse, share how Hopwood helped her grow. Thank you Julia Heap OBE and the whole team!

Knife crime has a devastating impact on victims and communities. The government is expanding its targeted crackdown on this across 27 police force areas. It comes with £26.25 million in funding to support increased police activity. Everyone should feel safe in their community.

Thanks to Pharmacy First - expanded through £340 million from this Labour Government - patients will benefit from better services. Patients can be treated for acne, migraines, scabies, ear infections and rhinitis at local pharmacies, which reduces pressure on our NHS.

Fantastic casework win! I'm delighted that Manchester Council has cancelled this fine, letting these incredible volunteers focus on their vital work. We are lucky to have quite a few fantastic local groups supporting our community every single day.

Fantastic to catch up with the new Greater Manchester Mayor, Bev Craig, in Parliament last week. I raised the importance of delivering Metrolink to my constituency and a new express bus service. I look forward to working with Bev and the team on a number of key issues.

More revenue-raising powers for our Mayor means that regeneration will benefit all parts of Greater Manchester. Making sure money raised locally actually stays local is how we will get the safer high streets, improved community spaces and transport links we need.

This Labour Government is cracking down on rogue operators, including cowboy tradesmen and aggressive bailiffs. I know how much of an issue this is for many of my constituents - who have been driven to despair by these rogue actors. It’s time we put consumers first.

I know access to physiotherapy is difficult for those in my constituency with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND). Today, I raised this in Parliament and was pleased to secure a commitment from the Leader of the House, who will raise this with the Health Minister directly.

I wanted my first question to the new PM to be for the Hoolickin family. Andy Burnham agrees that communities, victims and their families deserve an effective and accountable probation service. I will continue to support the family and their campaign to get justice for Michael.

Fly-tipping is a serious criminal offence that makes our streets look run-down and poses major environmental and health risks. Fines can now reach £5,000, while serious cases can carry unlimited fines and up to 5 years in prison. Offenders could also complete up to 20 hours of unpaid clean-up work.

With almost 180,000 children growing up without a permanent home, we’re kickstarting our record £39bn Social and Affordable Homes Programme. This will support the delivery of more than 70,000 homes, with nearly two-thirds being for genuinely affordable, social rent.

£5 million is more than most people will earn in a lifetime. Why does a billionaire give a politician a 'gift' of £5 million? Who does Farage really represent?

This year, we have had the driest July on record. This has directly affected the yield of our farms. This funding will help farmers manage drought pressures, protect crops and strengthen their resilience.

Speaking to parents in Heywood and Middleton, I know they worry about school uniform costs. We’ve changed the law: from this September, schools can only ask parents to buy 3 branded items, saving parents up to £50 per child per year. This is practical action to ease the cost of living.

Across Greater Manchester, time restrictions were lifted in March this year for disabled and older people. I am pleased that this Labour Government has now lifted them across England. Disabled people shouldn’t face unnecessary restrictions to accessing opportunities.

We need more housing locally, and it should be as close as possible to good public transport. Under new national planning rules, new homes will be fast-tracked for construction around stations. It’s a common-sense change that unlocks investment, drives growth and creates better access to jobs.
