UCU's Women Members' Standing
Committee (WMSC) recently signed up to the Not In Our Name coalition of women's groups that oppose the incoming EHRC Code of Practice. Gillian Jack, a member of the WMSC says, "The code, due to come into force on 5 August, will make life difficult to the point of impossible for trans people who simply want to exist in public places.
Along with much of the current anti-trans rhetoric, the guidance is done in the name of 'protecting women and girls' so it is particularly important that the WMSC has taken this step to stand publicly in solidarity with our trans siblings".

What the government is doing to trans people is a society-wide version of Section 28. It is a level of bureaucratic cruelty that utterly decimates a whole group of people’s rights and puts anyone who doesn’t ‘look’ right in the eyes of others under constant surveillance. It’s a horrific thing.
