New York City wants to make it easier for you to cancel subscriptions.
![On Friday, July 10, PEN America President Dinaw Mengestu resigned from his position following PEN America's publication of a report on Israeli and Jewish writers who "[face] rising isolation and exclusion." The report reiterated PEN America's "longstanding position" against cultural and academic boycotts—a stance we understand to have been formed in reactionary opposition to specifically Palestinian and pro-Palestinian political speech.
We salute Mengestu's principled decision. We also take this opportunity to remind PEN America that the normalization of Zionism will never again be tolerated by the literary community they claim to serve. Our grassroots pressure campaign, which included a successful and widespread boycott of the organization, made that very clear.
PEN America must learn from the lessons of the past three years and recommit itself to Palestinian writers.
