Some thoughts from my Booklife career book on being generous to yourself if you're a writer who needs that today because of not writing or not reaching a goal.
You	have	new	priorities	or	responsibilities. We all experience life changes, and when we do, we have to modify our goals to reflect those changes. Each change carries with it a range of pitfalls and opportunities. When I quit my day job and began to live off my book and reviewing income I took advantage of that opportunity to make my goals more ambitious, because I had more time to work on them. But one thing I discovered is that without the structure of the day job I
also had to be more focused and work harder than I ever had before. Because I was used to the time it took me to do things with the day job, I had no idea how long things took when I could work on them 24–7 — or how important taking breaks would become. As a result, I missed several book deadlines before I adjusted to the new rhythms of my life — and had to go back and adjust my goals yet again. You	haven’t	made	progress	on	the	tasks	associated	with	the	goals. While you’re busy berating yourself for being lazy, maybe something else is going on. Maybe you really don’t like doing the tasks associated with your goals. In fact, you dislike them so much, you can’t bring yourself to follow through in any consistent way. At that point, you have to change your goals or you’ll continue to be frozen. (If, on the other hand, you haven’t even attempted the tasks, maybe you just need a swift kick in the pants. After all, as the Romanians say, “A kick in the pants is just another step forward.”)You	haven’t	met	any	of	your	goals. Sometimes elements of what you need to happen to reach your goals will be beyond your control. If you don’t meet your goals in a reasonable time try to be patient and give yourself a few more months or even a year. Then consider either re-evaluating your goals entirely or amending them to be more modest. If you take a few steps at a time, you might soon be at the top of the stairs.You	aren’t	happy	with	your	life.	If achieving your goals doesn’t make you happy on some level — if you don’t feel fulfilled creatively — then you need to do some serious thinking about your life in general, and how your goals either support or do not support your happiness. There can be a huge difference between what others want for you, or what you think you want for yourself, and what the hidden core of you needs for happiness. Sometimes, too, talent is a curse. You may be talented in an area that doesn’t actually bring you happiness or balance.

i think she wants to hold hands
sketchy drawing of a woman walking along the side of a road and casting a long shadow. the shadow is much thinner than her, and slightly more colorful than the woman, who’s drawn in black and white and toned with dull yellow. one of the shadow’s arms is reaching out past where it should be and forming a clawlike shape, which mirrors the woman’s hand as she reaches forward.

An ethereal blue, pink, white and dark maroon/purple color digital illustration depicting three woman in pink, blue and lilac skin tones and in different poses (floating up, crouch-squatting while holding a flower, and laying belly-down on the floor, head resting on her chin) while two other woman look out from an arched window. There are star and floral panel, or tile details wrapping the image, and an ornate medieval-manuscript style decorative band stretching across the top, where the tops of the heads of an angel and devil figure are visible. Repeating down in a column at the right is the text "that's my door" broken up with the more visible text "I let it open me" overlaid on top.

Hisashi Eguchi : "The ideal girl for me is the one I would have wanted to become if I was born a girl, it is not the girl i would dream to date. It is really the frustration of not being born as a girl which fuels my drawings."

Part 2 of 2: when workers organize, management pushes back bc they don’t want to give up their power to make unilateral decisions about our benefits and working conditions. Remember: the union is not an outside party, it’s ALL OF US! Be a part of union democracy in action.

Part 1 of 2: Let’s play a game of union bingo! Union busting is an old, tired playbook, and HBG has been caught taking directly from it. We’ve taken the liberty of circling the tactics HBG is using so far, so let’s go through them one by one.

Rather than engage with employees in good faith dialog, HBG is now actively trying to union bust and deploy divide rhetoric to drive a wedge between workers. We say no to union busting, and YES to a union!

May 5th: Today we learned that HBG is denying to voluntarily recognize our union. To put it simply, HBG is union busting. HBG had opportunities to address worker concerns over the years. Now, it’s time for a democratically elected seat at the table. The union is YOU. The union is ALL OF US.

FINALLY finished a new piece <3 moving day in the year of the 🔥🐴
A digital, line-art and mostly flat color illustration of a colorful, magical night-time scene set in a wide open grass prairie. A group of modern femme witches are moving their furniture while serving tea. One girl stands on an antique desk (where a moon cake is in the midst of falling off the table) and looks into a floating gold antique mirror while she extracts books from a floating cardboard packing box, while also pouring tea from a floating china tea pot in another. The tea in being poured into a tea cup raised directly in the face of cool trans girl trying to get off the same desk while a girl behind her raises her finger to her lips in a "shush" pose while holding a plucked flower in her other hand, which is resting on an antique dresser/bureau. Next to her hand is a flaming gold statue of a horse. Above the scene float two cool SEA/brown witches- one in a fancy white dress holding a wooden staff, and another in a cool pink sweater with a puffed skirt holding a baby blue electric guitar. There are color stars in the night sky above.

Not sure where this will go, but I love the shapes
Screen-capture of an in-progress drawing in Procreate. On a mostly blank canvas, at the bottom is a blue pencil drawing of a young woman in a night-gown and head-cover laying on her tummy, feet raised in the air. Her chin rests on one hand, while the other is slightly extended out at the bottom, as if she is raising a book. In a square panel at the top right, another woman in an elaborate headdress/moon-shaped hat slight reaches out our her enclosed panel to a fainter red pencil drawing of a human figure who appears to be floating/falling back on the young woman below.
