It’s not like there’s a glut of good disabled rep in fiction, let alone romances that feature interabled relationships without falling into stereotypes. So, as marginalized readers are wont to do, we go looking for aspects of ourselves buried in other types of characters.

I like Violet’s journey with her disability and accepting that using adaptations isn’t a weakness in Fourth Wing. The idea gets a bit buried as it’s such a busy series but the thread does remain even after she gets superpowers. (Tbf it does lean quite heavily on Tehanu but that’s not all bad)

Not In Our Name (NION) Women @nionwomen.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
Feminism doesn't require women to see trans+ people as the enemy. For many of us, feminism has always meant challenging inequality, standing alongside people whose rights are under threat, and refusing to accept that one group's equality must come at another's expense. That's our feminism too.
Woman walking down a street outside, wearing a scarf and shoulder bag. The quote from one of the women who signed our letter reads

“I have grown incredibly exasperated at the portrayal of ‘gender critical’ perspectives as representing all women when my feminism has ALWAYS been inclusive and intersectional.”

You might want to double check - hopefully you should be okay in That London but I had to book a kids morning showing as it isn’t on at any other time in any of the Watford cinemas. It was only released this week! (But the tickets were only £4 each so I may have just found a new way to cinema!)

A tall man holding a pair of binoculars on a fence projecting the eclipse onto a plain white canvas propped against a garden fence. You can’t actually see the binoculars in the picture.A close up of the plain white cavas propped on the fence with the image of a partial eclipse projected onto it An extreme close up of the projected eclipse - it is much thinner now. AssistiveWare who did the article are also helpful. AAC isn’t a magic wand; using it in social situations can be effortful & not everyone you meet will react in a helpful way. Some preset phrases can help speed up the flow but limits what you want to say. It takes time to learn what works for you

There are a lot of downloadable apps. ProLoquo-to-go is a popular one, Predictable is nice as well. Toni Dynavox and SmartBox are big companies in this area. All have reps who are very helpful & can answer your questions. Most apps have a free trial period & most work on a subscription model.
