Step back and think about this…it’s INCREDIBLE We can sequence DNA from an extinct species that’s been dead for thousands of years. Not only that, we can sequence DNA from another extinct species that first extinct species ate as its last meal…to learn about population dynamics of the extinct prey.

my husband just sent me this
tumblr user nitewrighter says:
Me: I don’t get it. I thought I was doing a lot better than I was a few years ago. I’m like 10 times more on top of things than I used to be. How does everything feel terrible now?

The Tiny Me in OSHA-approved Hi-Vis Gear Who lives in my brain and pulls all the levers: Boss, it’s the fascism. You’re completely gunked up with cortisol due to the fact that your entire daily life is now underscored with a haunting awareness of the rapid erosion of your rights, dignity, and any and all social safety nets, and you’re also bearing witness to the most vulnerable people immediately being persecuted. This creates a natural stress response that basically means you’re going to continue having memory and organizational problems, as well as emotional imbalances.

Kindness, to me, is something we offer freely—without expecting anything in return, not even a thank you. The act itself is the point. I’ve learned some people will take advantage of that. But rather than give less, I’ve just become more thoughtful about where I give—where it’s needed most.

sharing a value tumblr post reminding you to be reasonable and kind to yourself when the world feels very deeply unreasonable and cruel
your life is not an optimization problem

-

as in you'll never achieve the perfect daily routine, sleep schedule, coping mechanisms, mannerisms, fashion sense etc. even after years and years of healing and improvement and self-discovery. you will never be so good at life that you manage to utilize every waking moment. its great to be productive and all but sometimes you'll suck ass. sometimes you'll take eight hours to be done with a twenty minute job. you'll prioritize the wrong thing. you'll sleep for 12 hrs just to avoid being awake. you'll relapse. and you'll relapse again. you'll forget to turn in the assignment. you'll order too little food. life is far too large and complex for you to even experience it completely, much less try to make sense of and control it. you can't. please give up on that and be at peace with the hours you lose. they are not separate from your life.

From inside a shrine in Fushimi Inari-Taisha. The air was thick with incense smoke. The mountain was covered with many small shrines like this one, it was a place that truly felt sacred.
An altar in a Shinto shrine from Fushimi Inari Taisha Sembon Torii, the Thousand Torii Gates. There are candles with prayers hung from them and fox statues with maekake (bibs) around their necks. The air is thick with smoke, slightly obscuring red curtains and scattering a bluish light. A single, miniature, vermillion Torii gate sits in the middle.

Its TIME. Opening for 4x6 original pencil on either white paper or toned tan. I am also including add-ons for "color spot" and fora full background. NOTE: Once I get a full-time job -I will not open for customs again. This is a rare chance to get custom artwork from me! #bsnm #Art 🎨
A perfect example of the "base price" tier commission. A photo of a 4x6 drawing of a pine martin in a tree looking at the viewer. It is framed in a white 5x7 matte board. This is an example of the scanned drawing that the buyer will receive. It will be a 600 DPI 4x6 jpeg and PNGA great example of both graphite and white ink on toned tan and of the color spot add-on. The buyer chooses 1 main highlight color. Great for markings, eye color, or to give the drawing an extra pop. Can be added to either white or toned tan paper.A good example of a full background add-on, though I think I can do better now.

This is an image of a toned tan graphite drawing of a fox drinking from a forest stream. Should be noted this was an 8x10.

And Done! The last steps are to get the darkest darks and lightest lights. I use white ink to tickle the eye and bring to back to white. Scanned on the left, how it will be sold on the right! If you'd like to give this fellow a good home, feel free to DM an offer. It is 4x6 in a white 5x7 mat
The final graphite drawing of the pine martin in a tree, fully shaded and detailed. The small curious creature looks at you from above. Friend? Do you perhaps have snacks?

I will be opening for a couple of commissions this week! I found a box of 5x7 mats fitting 4x6 and I’ll be keeping that the standard small size for now. Thinking graphite on white paper -$150USD Or Graphite and white ink on toned tan paper - $200 I’ll have more examples/better soon 😅
A drawing of a Carolina wrench next to a mechanical pencil. This is a good example of what you’d be receiving, a single subject with minimal background. The same drawing but a scan, the owner also gets a scanned copy.Another example of my pencil work, this is an unfinished drawing of a tiger with waterlillies in the background. The tigers face is quite detailed but the Lillie’s only have an outline. This drawing was later scanned and turned into a watercolor painting but I always had hoped to go back and finish the pencil work as well.An example of my graphite and white ink on tinned tan paper. It should be noted this is MUCH larger than the 4x6 and the 4x6 will be less detailed.

In the image is a snarling cat that has an enemies skull atop its head. A headdress with feathers and bones. Will you be adding to his collection?

This is one group's estimate of biomass by taxa, represented as a "Voronoi diagram" which is similar to a pie chart. Take a minute to take it in, and I'd love to hear what aspect of this you find surprising. For example, amphibians and reptiles are negligible biomass on this scaling. 🧪
Fig. 1. Graphical representation of the global biomass distribution by taxa. (A) Absolute biomasses of different taxa are represented using a Voronoi diagram, with the area of each cell being proportional to that taxa global biomass (the specific shape of each polygon carries no meaning). This type of visualization is similar to pie charts but has a much higher dynamic range (a comparison is shown in SI Appendix, Fig. S4). Values are based on the estimates presented in Table 1 and detailed in the SI Appendix.
