I am begging people who think they're good at spotting AI prose to learn the difference between an em dash (—), an en dash (–), and a hyphen (-). I've seen "I can tell this is AI because of the em dashes" when they're hyphens twice in the last six hours.

Exactly this. No matter how straight forward Alito’s comments look - it’d be a mistake to dismiss it as a clickbait. Given how these guys have grabbed power without any regard for precedent and rules - Dems should fully expect Rs to ram through a scotus nomination if they lose the senate.

They’re all just recycling the Jewish Question against Brown people. Concentration camps. Deportations/Expulsions. Copypaste rhetoric. “They’re here, exactly as we are, but they could never truly be one of us.” They don’t even have the decency to come up with a new name, it’s that plagiarized.

It's not reasonable to ask immigrants to assimilate, actually. Bilingual schools do, and should, exist. Things are and can be written in multiple languages. For now, for better or worse, English is the fast-track to many better jobs, yeah, true. But for the price of "abandon your culture"? Why.

If the lot of you spent half as much energy telling men to stop harassing, pursuing and committing violence against lesbians as you do in telling lesbians how accepting and understanding you'd be if a dude fucked us, maybe we our lives would actually be easier in a meaningful way.

As always, I have to ask: how many plumbers, electricians, or, uh, bricklayers, does a country actually need, how quickly will a glut of them destroy the current high earnings, and what exactly is the plan for when an entire generation can't bend their knees after 40?

so basically: careers in trades are much more viable with universal health insurance, more PTO and better protections for workers in general college should be affordable and offer flexible models for midcareer professionals bc sometimes peoples backs can only handle 10-15 yrs of bricklaying

when i was living in a country where skilled trades are seen more of a viable career path, i both knew a lot more ppl who had taken up a trade, AND the “can’t bend their knees after 40” piece was very noticeable once i hit my 30s. many ppl headed to college around 30 to retrain for health reasons!

i think it’s like super ideal for welders to become civil engineers and for hairstylists to become social workers, by the way, social mobility is great and we need more white collar workers who have some fucking perspective on life. but our systems are NOT set up for that. at all.

But it’s also true that these systems are just misogynistic. And we’re so busy holding victims to an impossibly high standard that we forget to ask the most basic questions about whether people like police did their jobs effectively.

All of this. I also want to add that, in my research, I found that a lot of “inconsistencies” in a victim’s story actually came from gender bias affecting investigators’ record keeping and interview methods.

Ironically, my original interview with the journalist I spoke with was primarily about how "inconsistencies" can come from gender bias in investigatory processes and then be blamed on survivors. It was the inspiration for this thread--but none of these points made it into any USA Today article:

I'm the token expert voice saying that inconsistencies in victim's narratives are common in an otherwise brutally bad piece of journalism full of tropes about how not to report on sexual assault.

Earlier this week, I agreed to interviews with two USA Today journalists. They wrote fantastic articles about the Cornell case that I'm proud to have been a part of. What I did not know is that their employer considers interviews to proprietary and opens up recordings to be used by any journalist.

Games media is not only unhealthy because there aren't jobs. For years, games media (journalism in general, really) has run on a deeply unhealthy system that incentivized the worst kind of writing and devalued the labor of writers and other creators.

I think that ultimately the problem with uprooting fraternities from American colleges is that the individual chapter houses full of kids are, essentially, mushrooms: the fruiting bodies of a much larger mycelial network of alumni donor money and cultural control. That's what you have to attack

When really pressed, a lot of universities will respond by banning a specific chapter from campus for a few years, in hopes either of setting an example or resetting the chapter's culture, and guess what: it doesn't fucking work!
