Kemi Badenoch wants to exempt the family home from inheritance tax. But that creates a perverse incentive for elderly people to *upsize* to save IHT. That could double the cost of the policy, and push £100bn+ from savings into housing. A 🧵 on bad tax cuts.

Even under the new system without considering new care money, pensioners will continue to be guaranteed a better rate of improving income than anyone else. Pensioner poverty IS a problem but lots of well off pensioners exist too. I kind of include myself in that category...

There are proportional representation systems that only give people one vote but there are also ones like STV (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Single_...) that allow for rankings. STV is my favourite and I believe that is true of the Electoral Reform Society (@electoralreform.bsky.social) as well.

Interesting. So, the most left leaning and right leaning choices get most of the first choices by a big margin. The most right leaning party is the most disliked by a massive margin and the most left leaning is the next most disliked - although the third most disliked is quite close (1/2).

This image of a football match in Gaza was removed from a sports photography festival in France following Israeli pressure.
Image of a football match organized on a redeveloped field, surrounded by buildings reduced to ashes as part of a genocide perpetrated by the Israeli army. It is an apocalyptic scene that presents the striking contrast of a clean, green football pitch amidst a crumbling, burnt out urban environment that was a troubled yet living city just a few years ago. The photo was finally removed from the port esplanade, where it was to be exhibited, reports the local media the Pays d'Auge.

Sometimes we get asked: is electoral reform really a priority right now? Yes - because how we elect our MPs impacts everything: the governments we get, the laws they pass, the direction the country takes. We can’t solve the problems we face without a healthy democracy.
