In its editorial, the FT has said electoral reform “could help to better align the UK’s anachronistic electoral model with an increasingly multi-party system.” They’re right. FPTP was built for two parties. We need a new voting system fit for today’s multi-party politics. www.ft.com/content/9585...

Whether or not a donor should fall under the proposed £100k overseas donor cap misses the bigger point. No individual should be able to give unlimited sums to a political party. A single cap on all donations would be simpler, fairer and more effective. www.thetimes.com/uk/politics/...

Every mega-donation damages trust in our politics. The Government has announced a taskforce on mega-donations, but they’ve said little about who will be on this taskforce or even when it is going to start work. We’ve written to the Democracy Minister to get some answers 👇

Big political donors may ask for nothing in return for their largesse. But parties know who funds them, and what their donors' interests are. As our CEO writes in today’s Times, that is how big money buys influence. A cap on donations would help put the voters back in charge of our democracy.

£72m in 48 hours is obviously seismic. But it shouldn’t be surprising. The warning signs have been there for years, as all parties have become more & more dependant on super-rich donors. No wonder so many voters feel like their voices go unheard by those in power. youtu.be/uLMuirAe--I?...

National emergencies are for genuine threats - wars, pandemics, natural disasters - not a device for governments to ram through their political programme. A threat to declare one on day 1 in office, while warning judges, peers & officials not to “get in our way”, should set alarm bells ringing.
