A less explored issue is that, to put it kindly, a lot of British media figures don't interact with ordinary people very much, so things like X and Facebook long ago become the pulse by which they intuit this mysterious rabble and their inscrutable moods. When that pulse turns fascist, this is bad.

Agriculture, as a sector, is responsible for 38% of all our greenhouse gas emissions. It contributes 0.75% of the national tax take. It is the source of water degradation, per the EPA “impacting over 1,000 waterbodies or approximately 60% of all waterbodies that are ‘At Risk’".

European power prices are split since the US-Iran conflict. Gas-reliant markets like Italy and Ireland have seen high prices (€140/MWh) while renewable rich regions including Spain, Portugal and Sweden see far lower prices (€40/MWh). These are average wholesale daily prices (8am to 8pm).

Spain's renewables build-out has structurally decoupled its electricity prices from gas markets. Gas now sets the price in only 15% of hours, compared to 90% in Italy. Countries that invested early in clean power are far less exposed to fossil fuel price shocks. Those that didn't now pay the price.
