Zoom has failed me for the final time. I've been having success with Proton Meet but also starting to give them political side eye. Discord has E2EE video calls now which is pretty great but let's say that I wanted another option: what are y'all using?

🌈 I've now been out of the closet for ✨20 years✨ (Caveat: it's not really possible to pin down an exact date and you could argue that I was out long before, but the day that I decided to actually live life fully authentically was 20 years ago on Labour Day)

Huh, I wasn't expecting Bring It On (2000 cheerleading film) to have aged as well as it has! Not "perfect" but feels way more progressive than other films from that era (which mostly have a lot of regressive dialogue and themes 2026 standards)

I must either be good job of hiding my personal info & ad algorithms are making random guesses, or I'm doing a really bad job & they know something about me that I don't. Last month every site thought I wanted a Ford F-150. This month it thinks I'm in the market for a dirndl (maybe Octoberfest? 🍻)

BeeKEM: Decentralized, Secure and Efficient Group Key Agreement (Derek Yen, Andrés Fábrega, Liangrun Da, Martin Kleppmann, John Mumm, Sunoo Park, Brooklyn Zelenka) ia.cr/2026/1434
Abstract. Group key agreement protocols are essential for modern secure messaging. Most existing group key agreement protocols assume a centralized model with a semi-trusted service that mediates the communication. This is efficient, but problematic for some important applications, since a central service can be a choke point for surveillance and censorship. There is a nascent literature on decentralized group key agreement that avoids such reliance, but existing proposals either do not scale, with update costs linear or quadratic in the group size, or lack proofs of security. Centralized protocols can offer much lower (logarithmic) cost.

We present BeeKEM, the first decentralized group key agreement protocol with logarithmic update cost in the common case (degrading to linear in the worst case) and proofs of security. We provide an open-source implementation and demonstrate that it is competitive with OpenMLS. BeeKEM opens the door for a range of communication and collaboration applications offering not only end-to-end encryption, but also metadata privacy and censorship resistance.
