I'm in the market for a "team brain" for a small company (<10 people). Wishes: - Ability to dump in PDFs, spreadsheets, text files, URLs, etc - Fast, accurate, and up-to-date search to answer questions like "where's the latest employment contract template?"

As a follow up to the @localfirstconf.com we are doing a unofficial local-first meetup in Cologne on the 15th of October. Maybe this can be a regular event where we can exchange knowledge? The two talks are to get the conversations started. If you are interested in joining, feel free to contact me.

A century before we would move from fixed-program computers to reprogrammable ones, Ada Lovelace realized that the Analytical Engine was capable of universal computation. Reading her Notes is thrilling for her awestruck articulation of these ideas. Available now; link in reply.

Screenshot diffing, feedback inboxes, PWAs, and of course local-first sync layer with self-hosted backend. Matches up pretty well with my approach on personal apps thus far into the LLM coding age. Curious to hear from others.

2026 @localfirstconf.com is truly one of the few places that unite disparate communities—open source, LLMs, p2p, interface design, standards—behind a shared value: user agency and empowerment. How refreshing to witness the openness and curiosity everyone brings to the discussion.

It feels like nearly every dev talking about AI is either: a maximalist – Font of hype and boosterism. Manic energy on building. Signs of AI psychosis. a skeptic – Depressed by the torrent of slop and disappearance of craft. Waiting for the industry to implode when token prices skyrocket.

Also - it's hard for us to compute the number of "this connection holepunches, but this doesn't", because the network conditions can change during the course of a connection due to moving between networks (Wifi -> cellular, etc.). That's why we mostly measure the ration of direct vs. relayed traffic
