This page includes a short list: stopomarchy.org I'm playing with a few options and will likely post to my blog, but getting off of 1Password, Cloudflare, & Quickshell. Also Proton Mail/Cal/VPN/etc due to their ongoing Ladybird (and multiple similar past incidents means I don't trust them anymore)

On vacation, so taking time to migrate off of several Omarchy-aligned products. Still shocked at the cash support for Omarchy — it's aesthetic is low-tier-to-mid at best, despite that being maybe its main selling point? AFAICT the ONLY reason to support is if you want to signal alignment with DHH 🤷‍♀️

Zoom has failed me for the final time. I've been having success with Proton Meet but also starting to give them political side eye. Discord has E2EE video calls now which is pretty great but let's say that I wanted another option: what are y'all using?

🌈 I've now been out of the closet for ✨20 years✨ (Caveat: it's not really possible to pin down an exact date and you could argue that I was out long before, but the day that I decided to actually live life fully authentically was 20 years ago on Labour Day)

Huh, I wasn't expecting Bring It On (2000 cheerleading film) to have aged as well as it has! Not "perfect" but feels way more progressive than other films from that era (which mostly have a lot of regressive dialogue and themes 2026 standards)

FWIW my current bet is to wait. I'm seeing enough local LLM announcements starting to float around that dedicated hardware now will always still be useful, but I think the calculus will be very different in 6-12 months

I must either be good job of hiding my personal info & ad algorithms are making random guesses, or I'm doing a really bad job & they know something about me that I don't. Last month every site thought I wanted a Ford F-150. This month it thinks I'm in the market for a dirndl (maybe Octoberfest? 🍻)

Good to know! But also, maybe to clarify my earlier comment on spam: I meant having your outbound emails flagged because they're not from a provider with strong reputation (like Gmail — not saying that I like that this is the situation but it is where the ecosystem has landed)

Brooklyn Zelenka @expede.wtf · 03/09/2026
Interesting! Any problems with spam / sender reputation at all? That's been the main things that's had me avoid the self hosted path (bad experiences in the past with systems that claimed to have solutions but caused enough trouble to make me switch). Would love it if they have that figured out!

Totally, and these are the kinds of things that I like in Proton. E2EE, peer signatures, independent 3rd party audits, etc. You have to trust someone at some level but they do a decent job of minimizing that surface (too bad about their political alignment)

Thanks! Sadly not E2EE though. > We don’t offer end-to-end encryption in our own apps, as we don’t believe it provides a meaningful increase in security for most users, while the trade-offs are significant. They're not wrong, but it's nuanced and I do care about increasing E2EE email adoption

Okay well apparently I'm on the switching services treadmill as I discover who's still supporting bad actors 😫 Nerds of Bluesky: if I want to get off of Proton but still have E2EE email from a non-USA company, what are my options?

Choosing Niri over Gnome is definitely about control over maturity. I've had no issues with screen recording, but I fully expect to eventually need workarounds or custom code for something

I've used a few tiling wms in the past, but directly before I was on Hyprland. Learning curve moving to Niri: easy / roughly 30 minutes? It certainly has different tradeoffs, not as extensive an ecosystem, &c, but surprised at how close I was able to get to my Hyprland workflow (arguably better TBH)

Before someone suggests it: I have tried Niri with Noctalia and DankShell, but didn't get enough out of them and they kind of fought my Nix-forward setup, so I'm just rolling my own waybar and whatnot

Finally switched my wm to Niri (in part due to looking at which parts of the ecosystem were so far staying away from DHH's crusade to reshape the community). Niri is REALLY good, especially for what is AFAICT a passion project! Deserves attention and grassroots sponsorship. github.com/niri-wm/niri

I also can't believe we still need to have this conversation. I've been hearing variants of this as long as I've been out. This isn't rocket science — we need to build webs of solidarity if we're going to get out of the mess we're in.

Even as a fan of @verilybitchie.bsky.social 's work, I was pleasantly surprised at how well presented the material is in this video essay 🔥 Also that it starts with bi media rep and ends with [SPOILER] how we should tear down our oppressive societal frame & build solidarity using shared values ✊🤝
