beautiful day for biking to Collingwood

i don't even think joyce carol oates is making a moral judgement on people who enjoy or even write formulaic genre fiction but it is quite funny how easy it is to strike a nerve with chronically insecure people. it's ok to like "slop". it's weird to pretend that it is somehow more than what it is.

very annoyed at the concept of vertical slices and demos at the moment... cant help but feel like this sort of stuff just poisons the natural flow of how things are made

I'm very please to announce a public release of my drag-and-drop bookmarking, game-making, and wandering tool Scrubjay! Scrubjay is a weird website builder that lets you cobble together web elements, images, links, text fragments, etc into a series of nested rooms...

"SCRUBJAY" sits over a bunch of images of frogs, birds, doors. it's a very 90s look

oh the new Protomartyr album is GOOD good. the previous one didn't get as much attention in my rotation for some reason, despite the fact i enjoyed a bunch of songs on it... but this one might be all bangers??

for every high-profile celebrity that publicly says no to a "big opportunity" because they can't reconcile it with the moral imperative to divest from zionist-supported institutions, there's a bunch more of us who decline these opportunities but feel they can't speak up due to... well. the pressure.

wrote a quick and dirty blogpost essay haraiva.bearblog.dev/stretching-d...

A popular sentiment I’ve observed consistently in discussions regarding institutional support for videogame making is the lamenting of key people in relevant decision making positions not caring about videogames because they:

Haven’t worked in the videogames industry in any capacity, and/or

Haven’t made a videogame in any capacity, and/or

Don’t play videogames.

I find this a little puzzling, and frankly a little alarming. I genuinely do not think working in “the industry” or being a base-level consumer of videogames would necessarily translate to making decisions that help a given creative scene actually flourish as a cultural ecosystem in “the Arts”, beyond the profit-first framing of “industry”.

i like that with every european i meet in australia we go through the bonding ritual of complaining about the waste management, the building standards and lack of insulation, the lack of good bread (if they are french or adjacent), the weird avoidant anglo behaviour we inevitably butt heads with

me going to your home: wow, crazy that your flooring isn't just big sheet of ice. i didn't realise they made flooring out of materials that aren't ice. and you can just walk around barefoot? not even socks? that's wild. in my home you have to wear ice skates. yeah, with the blades.

sometimes i write some scathing post and just put it in my drafts which is fun because months later i find them again completely devoid of whatever the context was in which i was so annoyed that i wrote it. this one below is one such case, but it is also evergreen.

why is it that whenever people say 'let people enjoy things' it's never about anything actually good

mgs pw comic
Chico, holding binoculars: "oh my god!!"

"oh..." he says upon realizing it's just big boss

reading the french wikipedia page for bread (normal saturday activity for me) and this bit is making me roll around the /ɛ̃/|/œ̃/ sounds in my mouth trying to figure out if i'm merging them?
