NEW: Amazon will refund thousands of Prime members in Wards 7 and 8 for secretly excluding them from full delivery services. The exclusions have now been lifted, and Amazon will also be required to change its practices. No corporation is too big to be held accountable for deceiving DC residents.

We returned to the bargaining table today after a months-long break, eager to finally hear management's first proposal. We've presented 25 proposals without a single response. Today we got theirs, and it was worse than we expected. 🧵(1)

The most interesting thing is how different the response from Chicago leaders have been than DC. Mayor Bowser tells everyone to just not believe their eyes and the Council waves their hands and says they are powerless.

The FAIR Act is primarily a backlash to Initiative 83, which overwhelmingly approved ranked-choice voting and semi-open primaries in DC. I don't support every initiative that has been proposed in DC, but sabotaging the process for all initiatives and referenda is anti-democratic and anti-Home Rule.

The Home Rule Act gives DC residents the right to propose ballot initiatives and referenda. Today, the Council will vote on a bill to gut that right by imposing dozens of new restrictions, requirements, legal barriers, and delays to effectively block any initiative before it reaches your ballot.

Police union in DC is speaking out against Flock cameras, but only because management was using them to investigate officer misconduct (possibly overtime fraud) 🙃 washingtonsun.com/metro-newsle...
The D.C. Police Union has joined the anti-Flock chat.

The group issued a press release Thursday sounding the alarm about the powerful cameras, which the Metropolitan Police Department uses to store license-plate information in a searchable database.

The union filed a grievance this summer, complaining that D.C. police managers had been misusing the tech. Union chair Gregg Pemberton tells The Sun’s Jenny Gathright that the department refused to investigate — so he decided to go public with the concerns.

“All I can tell you is that we discovered improper access or improper queries,” said Pemberton, who declined to share more details about what the managers were allegedly looking up in the Flock data.

A D.C. police spokesperson said the union’s grievance was over the use of Flock cameras in an internal affairs investigation regarding the misconduct of a union member.

2 yrs ago I held neighborhood elected office covering U St, Washington DC. That summer saw occasional "teen takeovers," freaking people out. But police reported no arrests, no behaviors that could result in arrest. The public presence of (Black) young people is not inherently criminal or dangerous.

Controlled witness list that's not released is concerning to me. It means that Mendo, who is pretty conservative, is absolutely gonna agenda-set. The landlord lobby on the pied-a-terre tax, the chamber of commerce on the business activity tax, etc etc.

This is the second journalist I've seen describing Binitie as "well-connected" but without specifying how or to whom. Those of us in the know know it's the Green Team and Mayor Bowser, but why soften language to cover for a major donor? I know why the AG did it, but a reporter should make it plain.

We had it at our school for one kid but not the others. I think it depends on resources - we had lots of PE teacher turnover and have no outdoor space - whether it gets executed. They pulled off the third grade swimming last year, and my new third grader really wants it but I'm sure it's guaranteed
