The DC Office of Campaign Finance fined the leading Mayoral candidate for bogus campaign finance violations. They announced it 3 days before the election to generate bad press and hurt her chances. It was all completely unsubstantiated and has been tossed out. Everyone involved should be ashamed.

NEWS: The D.C. Board of Elections just tossed out a $16,000 fine levied by the Office of Campaign Finance in June against @janeese4dc.bsky.social over allegations that her mayoral campaign impermissibly coordinated with unions. The board said there was no evidence of coordination.

Ward 7 resident Sehree Mickel knew something was wrong when her Prime packages were arriving slower than her friends in other parts of DC. So she filed a complaint with our office. Her complaint launched an investigation that led to $7.25 million in refunds for her and thousands of her neighbors.

The plaintiff in this case, Ricardo Barbosa da Cunha, has lived in the US for two decades, raised two US citizen, held a valid work permit, never committed a crime, and has deep community ties. The Supreme Court will now decide whether immigrants like Ricardo can even apply to be released with bond.

NEW: Amazon will refund thousands of Prime members in Wards 7 and 8 for secretly excluding them from full delivery services. The exclusions have now been lifted, and Amazon will also be required to change its practices. No corporation is too big to be held accountable for deceiving DC residents.

By law, property owners in DC must take basic steps to keep their buildings safe. While we always try to work collaboratively with owners out of court, we won’t hesitate to take legal action when they refuse to address persistent criminal conduct at their buildings.

⚠️ Heads up for student loan borrowers! ⚠️ Borrowers who enroll in autopay payments by September 30 will receive a 1% interest rate reduction — up from the current 0.25% reduction. The 1% rate reduction will last until June 2028 and is available for loans made after July 1, 2012.

NEW: We are suing the owners of a Fairlawn building under the Nuisance Act. The Ward 8 property has become a hotbed for drug distribution and other criminal activity after the owners repeatedly failed to take basic security measures. The conditions endanger tenants, neighbors, and nearby schools.

The Home Rule Act gives DC residents the right to propose ballot initiatives and referenda. Today, the Council will vote on a bill to gut that right by imposing dozens of new restrictions, requirements, legal barriers, and delays to effectively block any initiative before it reaches your ballot.

Usually, when a lender lends you money, it's because they think you will be able to pay it back. Not in this case. CAC made auto loans to people it knew couldn't afford them — then profited as they lost their cars and drowned in debt. It also let car dealers inflate loan costs with hidden add-ons.
