The first study of its kind, external showed that deaths have fallen sharply since school-age girls were offered the human papillomavirus (HPV) jab in 2008.

Between 2020 and 2024, no cervical cancer deaths were recorded in women aged 20 to 24 - the first time that had happened over a five-year period.

This is so, so well-articulated.
People call this friction "grunt work." Schwartz uses exactly that phrase, and he's right that LLMs can remove it. What he doesn't say, because he already has decades of hard-won intuition and doesn't need the grunt work anymore, is that for someone who doesn't yet have that intuition, the grunt work is the work. The boring parts and the important parts are tangled together in a way that you can't separate in advance. You don't know which afternoon of debugging was the one that taught you something fundamental about your data until three years later, when you're working on a completely different problem and the insight surfaces. Serendipity doesn't come from efficiency. It comes from spending time in the space where the problem lives, getting your hands dirty, making mistakes that nobody asked you to make and learning things nobody assigned you to learn.

Everyone stfu the Sixth Circuit issued *gigantic* AI sanctions storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...
We wholeheartedly agree. Irion and Egli breached the trust that we must have in the
lawyers appearing before us. They have brought the profession into disrepute. Irion's and Egli's failure to comply with the basic rules of our profession has forced us and the City to unnecessarily expend time and resources on a case that should have been litigated and resolved straightforwardly but was not. More importantly, by breaching our trust, we can no longer rely on the representations in Irion's and Egli's briefs, harming both their clients (whose cases are now viewed with skepticism and this court who must now independently verify everything Irion and Egli write. Finally, Irion and Egli have sullied the reputation of our bar, which now must litigate under the cloud of their conduct. We therefore issue these sanctions to Irion and Egli, the rationales for which we will explain below:
1. Irion and Egli must jointly and severally reimburse appellees in full for their reasonable attorneys' fees on appeal in all three appeals.
2. Irion and Egli must jointly and severally pay double costs to appellees for costs incurred under 28 U.S.C. § 1920 on appeal in all three appeals.
3. Appellees must file an accounting of their costs and attorneys' fees on appeal, with supporting documentation, no later than seven days from the date of thisorder. Irion and Egli shall file any responses or objections to appellees' requests for costs and attorneys' fees on appeal no later than seven days thereafter. There will be no replies.
4. Irion and Egli must each separately and individually pay $15,000 to the registry of this court as punitive sanctions for the proceedings in this court in all three appeals.
5. The clerk will forward a copy of this order to the chief judge to consider disciplinary proceedings under Sixth Circuit Local Rule 46.
6. If Irion and Egli are financially unable to comply with some or all of the requirements of this order, they must file an affidavit under seal describing their financial situation along with their objections to appellees' fee requests.

Huge trans rights ruling from the EU's top court - if someone moves to another EU country and transitions, their home country can't refuse to amend their registration details to match their lived gender identity
CJEU press release:
Member State legislation which does not permit the amendment of the
gender data of one of its nationals who has exercised his or her right to
freedom of movement is contrary to EU law
A Bulgarian national was registered at birth as being male, with a name, personal identification number and identity documents corresponding to that sex. She currently lives in Italy, where she has begun hormone therapy, and now presents herself as a woman.
She instituted proceedings before the Bulgarian courts seeking a declaration that she is a female person and to have her civil status data amended on her birth certificate. Despite the medical opinions and legal assessments confirming the gender identity claimed, her request was rejected.
According to national legislation, as interpreted by the plenary assembly of civil chambers of the Bulgarian Supreme Court of Cassation, the term ‘sex’ must be understood in its biological sense, excluding any amendment of the particulars relating to sex, name and identification number. The public interest, based on the moral and/or religious values of Bulgarian society, thus prevails over the interests of transgender persons.
Hearing the dispute, the Bulgarian Supreme Court of Cassation has doubts as to the compatibility of that legislation with EU law and has referred the matter to the Court of Justice.
In its judgment, the Court holds that EU law precludes legislation of a Member State which does not permit the amendment of the gender data in the civil status registers of one of its nationals who has exercised his or her right to move and reside freely in another Member State.
The Court emphasises first of all that, while the issue of identity documents falls within the competence of the Member States, they must exercise that competence in compliance with EU law...

For this #InternationalWomensDay I’m sharing a symptomatology #embroidery, body map (2016), in which I stitched my #MECFS symptoms freehand over a few months. ME/CFS affects mostly women, and the symptoms are often ignored or not taken seriously because of medical misogyny. #SciArt
An outline of a naked woman is embroidered on linen in the same bone white colour as the linen. She stands legs together, her right hand covering her groin, her left hand, palm up, extended slightly to her side. She looks to the right. Her entire body except for her belly is covered in intricate markings representing different neurological sensations. Her face is a mask of green lines, feathery grey lines cover her shoulders and chest. There is a thick band of intricate burgundy stitching around her waist. Her forearms and hands are covered in thick blue undulant lines. Her right leg has bands of burgundy along the muscles, with small dots around them. Her inner left leg has a thick line of blue running up it, with thin branches spreading towards her outer leg.

Trump's FCC Chair Brendan Carr announces the "Pledge America" campaign — urging broadcasters to air "patriotic, pro-American programming" for America's 250th birthday. One example they give: "Starting each broadcast day with the 'Star Spangled Banner' or Pledge of Allegiance."
Chairman Carr Announces Pledge America Campaign
Urges Broadcasters to Air Patriotic, Pro-America Programming in Support of America’s
250th Birthday

WASHINGTON, February 20, 2026—Today, FCC Chairman Brendan Carr established the Pledge
America Campaign.
This year, we celebrate an historic milestone in our country’s history. On July 4, 2026, we will mark
250 years of American independence. In recognition, President Donald J. Trump established the
Salute to America 250 Task Force (“Task Force 250”). The White House notes:
Under the President’s leadership, Task Force 250 has commenced the planning of a
full year of festivities to officially launch on Memorial Day, 2025 and continue
through July 4, 2026.
The White House is engaging and encouraging the entire federal government, state
and local governments, the private sector, non-profit and educational institutions,
and every citizen across this country to join in this historic celebration.
Task Force 250 invites citizens to have a renewed love of American history,
experience the beauty of our country, and ignite a spirit of adventure and innovation
that will raise our nation to new heights over the next 250 years.

Chairman Carr is heeding this call by establishing the Pledge America Campaign in support of this
historic initiative. Consistent with their longstanding public interest obligations, America’s
broadcasters play a key role in educating, informing, and entertaining viewers and listeners all across
America, and they are particularly well suited to air programming that is responsive to the needs and
interests of their local communities. The Pledge America Campaign enables broadcasters to lend their
voices in support of Task Force 250 and the celebration of America’s 250th birthday by airing
patriotic, pro-America content that celebrates the American journey and inspires its citizens by
highlighting the historic accomplishments of this great nation from our founding through the Trump
Administration today.
Chairman…“The White House is leading our national celebration of this historic event with the Salute to
America 250 Task Force, which calls on the federal government, among others, to mark this
momentous occasion. As part of this effort, I am calling on broadcasters to pledge to provide
programming that promotes civic education, national pride, and our shared history.
“This type of programming is more relevant than ever, as surveys show that civics education is in
rapid decline. And classic programming such as Schoolhouse Rock! is now only found in online
archives. Broadcasters are uniquely positioned to help address these concerning developments by
providing programming that celebrates the remarkable story of American Independence while also
tailoring it to the specific needs of their local communities, in furtherance of their public interest
obligations.
“That is why I am inviting broadcasters to pledge to air programming in their local markets in
support of this historic national, non-partisan celebration. As an example, this could include:
• Running PSAs, short segments, or full specials specifically promoting civic education,
inspiring local stories, and American history.
• Including segments during regular news programming that highlight local sites that are
significant to American and regional history, such as National Park Service sites.
• Starting each broadcast day with the “Star Spangled Banner” or Pledge of Allegiance.
• Airing music by America’s greatest composers, such as John Philip Sousa, Aaron Copland,
Duke Ellington, or George Gershwin.
• Providing daily “Today in American History” announcements highlighting significant events
that took place on that day in history.
• Partnering with community organizations and other groups that are already working hard to
bring America’s stories of unity, perseverance, and triumph to light.
“I believe in the greatness of our country. And I look forward to broadcasters showcasing its
inspiring history by taking the Pledge a…

Twitter post from @BenjaminDEKR

“OpenClaw is interesting, but will also drain your wallet if you aren't careful.
Last night around midnight I loaded my Anthropic
API account with $20, then went to bed.
When I woke up, my Anthropic balance was $O.
Opus was checking "is it daytime yet?" every 30 minutes, paying $0.75 each time to conclude "no, it's still night."
Doing literally nothing, OpenClaw spent the entire balance. How?
The "Heartbeat" cron job, even though literally the only thing I had going was one silly reminder, ("remind me tomorrow to get milk")”Continuation of twitter post

“1. Sent ~120,000 tokens of context to Opus 4.5
2. Opus read HEARTBEAT md, thought about reminders
3. Replied "HEARTBEAT_OK"
4. Cost: ~$0.75 per heartbeat (cache writes)
The damage:
- Overnight = ~25+ heartbeats
- 25 × $0.75 = ~$18.75 just from heartbeats alone
- Plus regular conversation = ~$20 total
The absurdity: Opus was essentially checking "is it daytime yet?" every 30 minutes, paying $0.75 each time to conclude "no, it's still night."
The problem is:
1. Heartbeat uses Opus (most expensive model) for a trivial check
2. Sends the entire conversation context (~120k tokens) each time
3. Runs every 30 minutes regardless of whether anything needs checking
That's $750 a month if this runs, to occasionally remind me stuff? Yeah, no. Not great.”
