This is especially true when it comes to math and science, parents and kids give up way too early and immaturely, resulting in far fewer kids studying science and engineering in universities compared to other developed countries.

The quants just have it so backwards on how opinions are formed. People believe whatever their side believes. When momentum is on our side, tell them what their new side believes and they will believe it.

A recurring controversy in left-wing spaces is "Was Person X being antisemitic or does he just call everyone he's arguing with a 'filthy lapdog of the globo-capitalist elites who should be liquidated along with his spawn'?" and I'm kind of tired of it, to be entirely honest.

YES! The Hastert Rule is THE SOLE REASON the House did not pass immigration reform in 2013-2014 when Boehner had every opportunity to pass immigration reform. Even factoring out the pedophilia (which you shouldn't), he did just as much damage as Gingrich did.

I genuinely don't agree with this framing. I personally don't see how a major catastrophe would play out, and if I can't see that then I really can't plan for it. I can absolutely see a 1% global warming catastrophe, a 1% solar flare, a 1% pandemic, because we've had similar things happen before.
