I always add a procedural aim offset in the ABP for my spine bones with Transform (Modify) Bone nodes because I don't really like how traditional animation-based aim offsets work. I suck at IK, and this way it's better for my needs.

Fucking idiot. Just because two games are written in Unreal Engine does not mean they work the same way. Take a sword, for example. How do you bring a sword into a different game that doesn't have rules for swords, or damage for swords, or interactions for swords? CEO of Epic Games, everybody.

The most annoying part of the UE6 announcement at State of Unreal was that it glossed over how much of a game changer 5.8's Mesh Terrain system is for game dev as a whole. In fact, they basically dismissed 5.8 outright.

Unreal Engine 5 should be nationalized into a public good and Fortnite should be converted to an employee owned b-corp with a mission similar to PBS Yo Yo Ma Fortnite Festival. Free Smokey the Bear Skin if you visit a state park. Optimized so even older public library computers can run it

I managed to get the Sandwich to run the UE5 editor as high as 30fps (unstable)! Given that it's integrated graphics, there was a lot of settings optimization to get it that high. It's still not great, but it'll run it in editor. The only way to get it higher will be to figure out Vulkan.

Really hate how people complain that Unreal Engine 5 is "unoptimized" based on their experience with the latest AAA slop that uses it and completely ignore other UE5 games that can run on decade-old hardware, e.g. DRG Rouge Core.

The minimum and recommended system requirements for Deep Rock Galactic: Rouge Core.

This tbh, and I'd go as far as to argue it's not even that new of a problem, especially in AAA. I look back at the 360/PS3 era and you can easily pull screenshots and say "they all look the same." It's kinda weird to use Unreal as a scapegoat when it feels more like "the AAA" look in general.

Decided to do something a little different and made a tutorial for animating UI widgets with the animation sequencer. Whenever entering an area on the map, the area's name will fade/slide onto the screen. The text style, render opacity, etc. are all editable in the sequencer #UE5 #indiedev #gamedev

Thank goodness for public libraries, because I borrowed Final Fantasy Tactics: Ivalice Chronicles and I HATE it. I loved FF12, FFTA and FFTA2, but I didn't have PS1 or PSP to play the original FFT. I can't express how boring I find historical low fantasy.

I'm playing Dragonquest 1 & 2 remake on Switch, and as I play, I'm getting more and more frequent bright white flashes that persist until I quit to the title screen. They're giving me migraines, but I'm not seeing anything about that online, only bitching about the Switch 2 version being digital.
