I'll have to see if I can find those books, they sounds genuinely fascinating. My experience with AD&D is limited, though I have some old 2e books from my uncle. It's definitely something to keep in mind though for building future games.

My biggest issue with any topic like this is the nebulous nature of D&D and TTRPGs in general. To one table, combat is 100% a fail-state where the players didn't find the optimal solution or failed to persuade. For others, dialogue is the fail-state.

Two months ago, folk from the village began to suddenly go missing. While half-hearted search attempts were made, the other townsfolk quickly accepted their missing neighbors to be poor souls claimed by the forest for committing some unknowable slight. One night, the lost folk began to return.
