It can't be left up to randos online to uncover who is actually being interviewed in national news outlets. Laundering the subject's lies about who they are is not journalism

All props to everyone trying to generate them and I guess the real answer is "there's a spectrum from B to organized-religion-C, and we should want people to get as close to B as their personality allows". But it's most important that they're on it, period.

Honest belief is B, pragmatic answer is if I can't convert someone to that (aka my version of C) fairly quickly, I think I have to point them to organized religion. I'm a multi-generational atheist, I wish there were an organized <etc> with comparable power, but there just doesn't seem to be.

We are told that the fact that a man who has done terrible harm *could* be better means that we have to pretend he already is.

Halloween is coming. You don’t have to go to a “trunk-or-treat” event in Seattle! You can close your neighborhood street to through-traffic – for free! Trick-or-Streets permits are free and easy to get. Join here: seattle.gov/transportation/trick-or-streets
The ancient two-panel Drake meme. On the top, he's looking away in disgust and holding his hand up. The text next to it says "Truck-or-treat". On the bottom, he looks pleased and is pointing toward text that says "Close your street".

They are in fact that stupid and nasty, to be clear. It's a very low bar to clear, the "at least not THAT stupid and nasty" bar, for the purposes of these goals.

Re last, I'm not dumb but am definitely lazy, and tbh these assholes are themselves also idiots if they can't figure out how to replicate their socioeconomic class despite these qualities in their children. They've definitely got more money than I do. It's not rocket science.

look, i think these people should just be honest and say that their kids are too dumb and lazy for their socioeconomic status to self replicate so they want to shrink the talent pool, (which wont work because it will also shrink the demand for talent)

The person who needs to be intentionally restored to the community in the aftermath of intimate violence is the victim of that violence. To do that often requires attacking the perpetrators’ power/access to victims. Asking “but how can we fix their heart?” as a bystander is deeply inappropriate.

All of this. I also want to add that, in my research, I found that a lot of “inconsistencies” in a victim’s story actually came from gender bias affecting investigators’ record keeping and interview methods.

Differently so? Go wild. But less is an absurd claim. (Incidentally this is one of the things I like best about Trek. You can't avoid some World Of Hats, but all? the reoccurring species are very clearly similar-degree different-style social)

Re LRT on a far more trivial note, ignorance of that fact is one of the most annoying qualities of mediocre scifi. You need to do MASSIVE lifting if you want me to believe that your intelligent aliens are meaningfully less social/cooperative than humans.

Human beings became the apex predator on this planet for one (1) reason: we work together better than any other species that has ever existed. That's why primates were so successful and that's why humans emerged as the primate that stands so far above the rest.

I think it's fine for unis to be in charge of managing petty public order / QoL violations on their campuses, but if there's one thing that keeps becoming more apparent, it's that local authorities with conflicting interests shouldn't run rape or murder cases. A statewide org should. No exceptions.

DRAGONFLIGHT (1978)
 Acrylic on Masonite - 20" X 30"

For the 1st book in Anne McCaffrey's legendary Dragonriders of Pern series, I wanted to create a literal visualization of the title. I selected an aerial POV and tilted the horizon to simulate the dizzying sensation of flight. #art #booksky 🪐📚
A flight of dragons swoops past a rocky mountain peak down that mostly obscures the sun. The light tints green sky yellow along the ridge. With wings spread wide, the lead dragon pulls up from a dive with beak open to expose teeth and tongue. The arc of its climb intersects a red striated planet. The female dragonrider raises one arm up as she glances back over her shoulder.

**Lights Out Alert Sunday & Monday Nights** Birdcast is estimating 300-400 million birds will be in flight.
From meteorologist Eric Snitil

**Lights Out Alert Sunday & Monday Nights**

"Heads up birders, I would not be surprised if the biggest bird migration night of the year happens over the next 2 nights. Birdcast is estimating 300-400 million birds will be in flight. That is a lot, but the pattern could not be better for migratory birds. A massive area of high pressure will turn the low level winds from the northeast to the southwest across most of the US. The last time we had anything similar to this in the fall was early October last year when a record 1.25 billion birds were in flight. I doubt we get to that level, but I suspect the number will top 500 million especially Monday night which looks to be the bigger of the two nights. You can help by turning off those outdoor lights on big migration nights, and the next 2 nights is about as big as it gets."

one of the big frameworks I use for thinking about the W.E.I.R.D. world I live in is: For most of human history, labor was cheap and materials (and energy) were expensive, and relatively recently that changed to labor being expensive, and materials being cheap. This impacted pretty much everything
