I appreciate that Dolly Parton refused to participate in "dress respectability" and, by her own account, modeled her aesthetic after a town "tramp," who she thought was beautiful. She separated aesthetics from character and understood "classiness" to be about how you treat people, not how you dress.

I’m re-reading Hickman’s “Avengers” and convinced that if the adaptation were interested in it as anything more than a cynical IP grab, it could have been the basis for a defining popular blockbuster of the 21st century. Broken systems. Entropy. Decay. Collapse. (Avengers #3)

Ok here’s a question that just popped into my head. I have always assumed when you’re in engineering looking at the warp core you are facing the stern of the ship. But is that right?
An image of the warp core in the engineering section on the Enterprise D. It’s a big column of toroidal glass chambers that are lit up from within, and at about chest level there is a big metal manifold with a circular window into the dilution chamber.

The server Treksky is hosted on, the amazing @skyfeed.app, is having some upgrades I think. The person who runs it is struggling with the rising costs and I think is trying to optimise it as it’s very expensive for them to host at the moment. I’d donate but I’m broke 🫤 Hopefully it’ll be back soon 🤞

Faran Tahir as Captain Robau, STAR TREK (2009)
Faran Tahir as Captain Richard Robau in a turbolift aboard the USS Kelvin.

Costume Designer Michael Kaplan created unique costumes for the opening of STAR TREK, set 25 years prior to the bulk of the narrative, aboard the USS Kelvin. Designed in parallel with Production Designer Scott Chambliss' Kelvin interiors, Kaplan's uniforms consisted of a new color palette (teal for Command, mustard for Operations, pearl gray for Sciences, and white for Medical) intended to create a clear distinction between the two time periods depicted in the film: "I wanted the audience to feel the time difference between the Kelvin and the Enterprise, so I did research into sci-fi movies of the 1950s. I did something that had kind of period future feeling to it. It feels a little retro in its faturism... Scott and I would compare our designs and they'd fit together even before we spoke about them. We were definitely on the same wavelength."

Comic Book Guy from The Simpsons reacting to an extract related to Star Trek from the book ‘The Next Big Thing’ by Randall Stross (1993)

“The company would redesign the Cube and have a new machine out for the fall. The crash program was to be called Warp 9, a speed that lay beyond the possible (Warp 8 was the maximum speed of the starship Enterprise in Star Trek), and a reference to the nine months that the company gave itself to reinvent its computer.”

Toland was an AMAZING talent. It says a lot that the very last credit (and the very last image) you see in Citizen Kane is one where Orson Welles shares onscreen credit as producer/director with Toland as cinematographer. That kinda thing just didn't *happen.* He was THAT much of a gamechanger.
The last onscreen end credit from the conclusion of Citizen Kane:
