Why am I awake? It’s 5:30 am. My alarm is set for 7. I should not be awake.

Yay! I just looked it up, and their necklaces look pretty nice.

Only the Halloween ones glow, though. I keep hoping they’ll make glow in the dark pajamas for like Easter or something, cause those usually aren’t so seasonal, but they never do 😂

It turns out The Children’s Place sells adult pajamas to match many of the kids holiday ones, which means they do stuff you normally only find in kids clothes, like glow in the dark.

My ceiling is also glowing, in case anyone was wondering. Also my wall. And my water bottle. But none of these things are new. The pajamas are new.
Glow in the dark stars and planets on my ceiling. Space themed glow shapes on my wall, plus a much closer star on my water bottle that photo bombed the wall. Glow in the dark stars on my water bottle. Also visible is a blue light shining through a tangle of USB cables.

My pajamas are glowing in the dark! I’m way too excited about this.
A pair of eyes and a spiderweb glowing against a black background. Also visible are some glowing beads on my bracelet, and an amber light on my humidifier.

Also, if you’re gonna insist on naming your kid, you should at least have to include some vowels. “Y” is not sufficient as the only vowel across three names. That’s just not reasonable. It’s not even a full-time vowel.

Emily (spooky) @emilyrose.bsky.social · 12h
People should not be allowed to name their own kids. We should just use a random name generator, like they have in video games, and whatever it lands on, that’s what you get.

I haven’t even looked at my ballot yet, but that’s one of the easy ones. I always vote to fund transit (unless there’s something super shady going on, which hasn’t happened but theoretically could), but also, I was on the BATF for years and am acutely aware of BART’s funding situation.

I saw “crafting,” and thought it was probably gonna be like “crafting a team” or something, but decided to click just in case I was wrong, and omg! You’re just hanging out making little guys! Which is actually the exact thing I’m supposed to be doing for art therapy this week 😂

I'm sorry but the key priority for the next US SecDef has to be extracting Elon Musk from every single thing related to US military contracting. No Musk company should receive any government contract of any kind from any Dem executive.

We are not just now learning what measles can do. The people who were around from the dawn of history until 1963 took extensive notes.

We already KNOW what measles can do to previously healthy, unvaccinated children. It used to be extremely common to see that, prior to 1963. And while many of us weren’t born yet, the people who were around during the period from the dawn of writing to 1963 took lots of notes.

The answer, of course, is this kind of dog.
Jujube, a brown chihuahua, on my lap.

Emily (spooky) @emilyrose.bsky.social · 13h
Seriously, though, what kind of dog not only doesn’t bark at the doorbell, but actively resists answering it 😂

Emily (spooky) @emilyrose.bsky.social · 13h
The first few times the Roto Rooters guys came to the door, Jujube got all excited. But they send a total of 5 different guys, and a lot of the work was outside, so after a while she shifted to hunkering down on my lap when she heard the doorbell, trying to stop me getting up 😂

We're just generally not very good at identifying who the audience is for a particular communication, even when it's jumping right out at us. And because we're now accustomed to tailored media algorithms, we assume we're the audience for most things, and they're just failing to reach us.

I'm glad folks are talking about the misuse of therapy speak, and we gotta do something similar with the language of social change. It's a real situation, especially online. We're just kind of constantly miscommunicating about this stuff in a way that's deeply solvable.

In addition to the broader literacy crisis, we're also in a power literacy crisis. Many folks deeply misunderstand how political power works, who has it, and how to build it. And all of that is happening while more folks are using the language of organizing without grasping its most basic tenets.

We're reporting on sports betting apps, and we need your help. ProPublica is looking for 250+ people who use DraftKings and FanDuel to share their data with us and help us understand how the apps respond to user behavior. ➡️ How to help: projects.propublica.org/sports-bett…
A neon green tracker shows that ProPublica has received 63 people's sports betting data, over 20% of the way towards its goal of 250. Text below reads: If you’re one of millions of Americans who have placed an online bet on a sporting event, you know how quickly you can go from celebrating your wins to feeling like the odds are stacked against you.

ProPublica is trying to understand how sports betting apps incentivize users to keep playing and when they warn users to pump the brakes. To do that, we need your help: We’re aiming for at least 250 people to upload their gambling history from apps like FanDuel and DraftKings. We’re not quite there yet, so if you’ve used these apps, you can help our journalists. If you’ve worked in the industry, you can also help us by answering a few questions. (You can also reach us on Signal.)

I don’t think Washington allows the death penalty for crimes committed by minors, so he won’t be executed. But yeah. What I want to know is whether child protective services was contacted about this family at any point in the 15 years leading up to this. I’d bet they were, and did nothing.

15, actually. He’s 17 now. And even his extended family is saying he was abused. I’d bet there was A LOT more than they knew about. There usually is.

Emily (spooky) @emilyrose.bsky.social · 14h
I would bet money that this kid either suffered horrific abuse at home, or was experiencing a psychotic episode. None of the things that typically motivate family annihilators fit a 17 year old. There was something else going on there.

I definitely do not want to be laid to rest in a Pringles urn, but I think it would be hilarious to have one of those, and maybe put some random ashes in it. Not random cremation ashes, just normal ashes, like from a campfire or whatever. I’m kinda disappointed they’re only making one.

Well, replacing the main sewer line will probably cost close to $40k, possibly more depending on what the city wants for the but under the road, so I guess I’m gonna be getting mainline clogs for the foreseeable future.

If you think this is something that you should be able to do in the city, fix the mugging/street harassment problem first
