I found it. 2015, much more recent than I remembered. And it wasn't the author of the profile who asked her about it, it was the novelist Michael Cunningham! @elliottholt.bsky.social
The novelist Michael Cunningham remembers going out for a coffee with Moore, who had starred in the
2002 Stephen Daldry movie based on his novel "The Hours." As they stepped outside, he noticed that she changed. "You just did something, didn't you?" he asked.
"She said, 'No.' I said, 'You retracted your beauty, didn't you?' She said, 'Oh, yeah, kind of, " Cunningham said. "She pulled something in. There was a glow that shed emanated in the living room that she could retract in the street."

There is a lot to say about the Nolan Odyssey movie. But one point that I think has not been emphasized enough is: this is a film about living in LA, as Nolan, my erstwhile British compatriot and age mate, has done for years. I gather it’s a strange place.

I also hated Nolan’s Odyssey, for many of the reasons Emily Wilson mentioned. I love film and have no problem with adapting stories to fit the medium but Nolan’s leaden script and the film’s lack of moral ambiguity bored me.

I have no objection to Nolan’s casting in “The Odyssey,” but I found the film ponderous. Visually magnificent but the script is clunky & tedious. I don’t blame Matt Damon—the script is the problem—but his O is not a trickster or “complicated man,” to quote Emily Wilson’s translation. I was bored.
