I, too, love to purchase companies older than most nations, with names that are known to multiple generations of people all over the world, and then get rid of the names and replace them with the name of a thing nobody gives a shit about.

If someone were to let me design a hospital (unclear why anyone would) it would have lots of places for visitors to take naps and/or have a good long private cry.

I am BARELY functioning as it is, and now my management company has added the wrinkle that I have to be out of my apartment before 8 for the next 2 weeks (or be trapped inside all day) so that they can redo our stairs??

Reading whatever I’m reading to the baby would be great except I mostly read historical romance these days, and while he may not understand the smutty bits, the nurses do. Switched to the new Richard Osman today, but then I was worried my laughter was shaking the baby too much.

i should clarify, when i write people doing bad things, it's because i am bad. they are me. more importantly, when you read about those bad things, they also become you. that's how story works. in fact, you are going to think about murder before this skeet ends. how's that feel, sicko.

I listened to Choosin’ Texas this morning and confirmed that no, I hadn’t heard it before, but also I spent pretty much the last month in the hospital, and I was in London for the week before that.

I get, logistically, why you would put the NICU directly next to L&D and maternity in your hospital, but I would love it if I didn’t have to walk past all the happy moms going home with their healthy babies every day. They should! But I would prefer not to see it.

I don’t really know how to begin to explain the last 9 days of my life, but the headline is that there is now a perfect, extremely tiny baby boy in the world. He’s just over 3 days old. His name is Casper. He’s stable, and if his kicks are any indication he’s a fighter. I’m completely in love.
The tiniest footprint you can imagine, dated 9/10/26.

She also could tell a fuckin story
When the 1974 recording of the song reached number one on the country charts, Elvis Presley indicated that he wanted to record the song.
Parton was interested until Presley's manager, Colonel Tom Parker, told her that it was standard procedure for the songwriter to sign over half of the publishing rights to any song Elvis recorded.
[28] Parton refused. She recalls:
I said, 'I'm really sorry,' and I cried all night. I mean, it was like the worst thing. You know, it's like, Oh, my God... Elvis Presley.' And other people were saying, 'You're nuts. It's Elvis Presley!'...I said, 'I can't do that.
Something in my heart says, 'Don't do that. And I just didn't do it... He would have killed it. But anyway, so he didn't. Then when Whitney [Houston's version] came out, I made enough money to buy Graceland. 29]

Why was Dolly able to do all these things? Because BMI (and ASCAP) protect songwriter’s rights and songwriters are paid royalties for everything. Dolly never sold her immense catalog of songs and it made her a 9-figure fortune.

not sure how to express this without sounding like a chair-turned-around youth pastor, but there's something so radical about having your most well-known lyric be "i will always love you" and then sincerely embodying it whenever possible

do you ever feel that you're a joke

all these years, the people thought the joke was on me, but the joke's actually been on the public

i'm sure of myself as a person, I'm sure of my talent and I'm sure of my love for life. I like the person I am, so I can afford to around with makeup and clothes because i'm secure with myself.
