Welcome What Sun Will Come

First the long note of the train,
now the owl, owoo owoo oo.
Soon, sun. Then, soon, noon.
How the day spins down
that fast it makes dizzy birds
lose track of their tunes.
No rain so we all drink light.
Crisp leaves twirl spirals
around faint trails where
raindrops once fell.
Inhale with care
this campfire air,
the hint of summer's peach
still lingering.

I Was Going To Burn Some Sage For The People Of This World But I Read An Article On The Internet Saying It Was A Bad Idea

Also I didn't have any sage
To burn
Doing nothing is always easier
Ask the cop in the graveyard
Or the teacher who
Every day
Parks her car in front of legions
Of Massachusetts dead
And goes to work teaching
Students about the history
Of witches thieves
And revolutionaries

Why is she there? Asked my daughter,
who should be doing her maths homework but is instead
Watching through the window, cradling the cat with a bloody nose.
She’s bringing in our bins I say.
She’s always don’t it, even though I’ve never asked her to.
I want my daughter to learn about mass, as Jane did.
Our empty bins, measured, counted, pie charted.
Kind acts balance against the rest.
Over the wall my neighbour says
I don’t think our cats have met
So I agree
