It's almost as if these books are designed specifically to develop language, curiosity, and the understanding that we learn in reading and conversation. And I believe this data was only for English language text and conversations in the US.

Also, one presenter brought statistics on the inclusion of "rare" vocabulary in different scenarios. Adults talking to children had an average of 9 occurences. College graduate friends talking to each other was an average of 17 occurrences. Children's books had an average of 31 occurrences!

It's about answering the whys and asking what they think and why. And it's emotional and social development as we guide them to imagine the world from another perspective. I'm sure I'm preaching to the choir here but this was definitely a topic that came up in every session this year.

Reading teacher just back from reading conference here. This is how we get a reading and critical thinking crisis. Reading to children isn't about saying the words on the page out loud to them. It's about the conversation and language development.

I do not like to be publicly dire, but this is the insidious shit at the root of our reading and critical thinking crisis. It's not just the saying of the words on the page. It's the dialog we have with our children. Reading with children is cognitive, emotional, social, and language development!

I am so tired of this false media narrative about a divided council. In 2026 we have voted 395 times so far. 59 of those votes ended in a 6-6 tie. Only two of those tied votes got a mayoral tie break. The rest were budget amendments or the presidential election. Don't believe the media hype

i worry that men think being A Good Guy is dramatically and heroically intervening on behalf of an endangered woman and then being publicly rewarded on a grand scale when actually being A Good Guy is just usually saying, “hey man that’s not funny” or “wow that’s fucked up” and there is no reward

We are at the break glass moment on the Democratic Party and its treatment of transgender people, and it is my opinion that if we don’t act now and loudly demand to be heard, we will suffer the consequences of their shift.

Just also want to note that trans people and advocates for the unhoused have told people for years that Gavin Newsom is trash. If this is what makes people realize how awful he is, great, but I really hope this is also a wake-up call to listen the first time someone tells you who they really are.
